I plan on moving to Houston soon. And I was wondering if a Houston resident can IM me on AIM (AOL), my screen name is Courtney0220. I need someone to talk to, it's stressful worrying if you're getting into too deep over your head. So if someone can help me, it'll be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

Sorry to hear you're moving to Houston. Make sure you stay close to the city, or else you'll be living in suburban hell. Houston is like one big strip mall.

That's how most people who don't live in Houston feel.

Houston's a good place to live. I don't IM, but I (and I'm sure lots of others on here) would be happy to answer any questions you have about the city. Good luck with the move, I know it can be stressful.

When making a big decision, such as moving to another state, make sure you use your head, not your d*ck to make that decision.

A guy asking for help gets 6 replies. Girls Gone Wild and Serial Killers are both on their 2nd page.

Is this advice due to "clean up" considerations?

    Heh, no.

I've been involved with romances that involved moving across state lines, and well... I wouldn't say I've regretted it, but I wish I would've thought it through some more.

    Post some more info HTown.
Are you single or moving with a family?
What will you be doing - working, studying? Where will you be doing it?

    All vitally important questions.

Most people I spoke to before I moved to Houston bad mouthed it. I think it was close to the best 5 years of my life! Great place to live.

The humidity is what keeps Houston from being a high-priced city (ala San Francisco or New York or Miami). Everything else about Houston is great.

On behalf of the 4 Million plus H-towners, I welcome you to Houston, Texas. We don't pay a state tax.

You have to tell us what part of Houston you are moving to.

    Let me tell you this.

    Expect traffic.

    Expect construction.

Expect a cop to pull your ass over in Bellaire.

Houston isn't a very sexy place to live, but...

I've found that it's like an old t-shirt. It has a sort of informal comfortable feel that grows on you over time. It's definately not the most beautiful or unique city in the world, but all of the people are friendly and relaxed, there is plenty of stuff to do, and it has just enough of a laid-back vibe that it seems to combine the best traits of the relaxed southern cities like Tallahassee, FL or New Orleans (sans the graff and good-old-boy vibe) and the benifits of a truly large city that you could find in someplace like Dallas (without the plastic sheen, or the "fake wannabe LA vibe").

In short, even though it might not be the coolest place to live, IMHO Houston is a comfortable and relaxed place to live. I bet if you give it a chance it will grow on you in the way that familiar things can endear themselves to you, especially if you move into one of the areas of town with more history, like the Heights.

(BTW, the place you'll get pulled over is not Bellaire, but rather the micro-city of Southside Place. The cops use their 1/4 mile strech of Bellaire as their source of city revinue.)

and quite contrary to Baqui's assertions that anything outside the loop is stripmall hell.....he's dead wrong.

The outlying cities clustered around Houston are for the most part nice places to live also...with the advantage of being close to all the benefits of living near Houston.

Dont overlook areas like The Woodlands, Friendswood, Humble, Clear Lake, Katy, Sugarland, and even my own little slice of heaven...Baytown. Lots less traffic, and about 30 minutes or less drive to any inside-the-loop attractions..

Go ahead and hit us with any concerns or questions you may have...we will gladly help ya out.

Personally, I think this city stomps d!ck. I friggin' love it. Yeah I hate the traffic and construction but the city is great. And the 'burbs are great, too. Why in the hell is everyone so bitter? Sometimes the cc.net bbs is more like talk radio station than anything else. Everyone is negative about EVERYTHING and b****es.

Holy ****. I am b****ing right now! AWWWWWWW!!!!

This thread was supposed to be positive!

HTown, email me. I would be happy to tell you what and where is fun regardless of where you live and what your situation is.

    Houston is badass.

Dallas is Houston without the Rockets, Astros, and Texans. There's not much difference between the two cities (except we have light rail and not as bad traffic).

Don't forget Cypress (one of the best school districts in all of Texas). ;)

Great area also, although, since I grew up in and currently live in Cypress, I am partial.

The only think I dislike about Spring/Klein/Champions (used to live near Champions Park) is the location in relation to major freeways.

Whatever you do, stay the hell away from living near the Willowbrook mall area.
