So, we moved down for a better view. Wow...before we know it scores of people are in our way. I'm just trying to watch the game. Then...hey?! that is Clyde Drexler 3 rows in front of us....and I think that is Micheaux....(so how tall was Micheaux?). Anyhow, Clyde is as professional as can be. He has 2 empty seats around him, and two guys on either side of those empty seats.....he's 3 seats in from the aisle. Fans come up constantly to get 'graphs, mostly kids. One older man gets almost dissed by Clyde, deservedly so. So, back to the game. What a game. Rudy goes ultra small against sans-Mac...hehe. We are playing Kenny at center with 3 guards and Torrres!!!!!!!! Oscar plays most all of the 4th quarter! Oscaaar!!...Let me tell you right now, it is really fun to yell Oscaaarr!!. Especially with Clyde three rows away, right below you. Oscaaar Drexlaaar! Game over....we win big, and Clyde is done signing whatever for whoever and heads to the floor and around the arena to the floor entry. I follow and he slows down for someone. Hey....here's my rockHEAD moment of the year....for my Quote of the Year 2002 scrapbook!!! What would you say??? "Hey Clyde, what do you think of that Oscar Torres? He looks a lot like you." Drexler. "Yeah, that's what I hear." damn...he's dismissing me....so, "You think he does more than look like you?" Drexler. "Yeah, maybe." man! I'm losing him. I'm losing my rockHEAD moment. I'm thinking, time to pull out the serious CBrownFanClub **** on this Hall of Famer. So, what is it? He is still walking with me, but 5 more steps..... I know! "So, do you think he can coach the Houston Cougars like you?" OK...I still made it home...'nuff said. I never did really like Drexler anyhow. I love this game!!!
You are lucky he didnt turn you into a crispee biscuit. Hey I did piss of Charles once long ago, but I think everyone is tired of that story.
Good job crispee. I loved Drexler as a player but supposedly he had the biggest ego and clashed with my man Barkley.
Why do you think drexler retired? Barkley was why. We all know the man can still play but he could not share the court with barkley much longer.
What is the fascination with belittling the only players to bring Houston a (men's) major championship? I don't get it. I'd like to know exactly why Drexler didn't get along with Charles. I'd tend to be on Clyde's side until proven otherwise.
Barkley, is well...Barkley. Loud and obnoxious: love him or hate him. Drexler hated him and didn't respect him, and often times showed it. Don't think they ever hung out outside of the court. Dream at least respected Barkely as a person and bball player. Clyde's ego wouldn't allow him to tolerate Chuck's personality.
DREAMer, Barkley is more personable than Drexler...that's one reason. Besides, Drexler needs to be belittled for his handling of his own retirement to move to UofH as a coach. I got mine in...who's next!! Hey...I didn't plan to say it...but the moment presented itself...it's not like I went up to Barkley and threw a drink in his face. Man, I live for my one moment with Charles. Probably will never happen...but I have it rehearsed: "Hey Charles: You are my true hero for saying, 'I am not a role model!' before anyone else had the guts. Can I buy you a beer at Kenneally's sometime?"
Well if you don't have a picture of this incident, could you at least get jamcracker to come out of retirement to confirm/deny it?
So crispee you're telling me you talked with Clyde and did not ask him the famous question? ("If you were a tree what kind of tree what you be?")
In a way Drexler's treatment of CB is Quitten-esque. If CB weren't a Rocket, who much longer does Clyde play? I say until April 2000.
Crispee, keep up the good work, love almost all your posts. Heckling Drexler, not cool. Even from the narrow perspective of just the Rockets, we would not have won in 1995 without him. I suppose you would do the same thing to Dream, too. By the way I like Barkely by far the best of any of them and liked him from when he dissed Bobby Knight at the Olympic trials, but still not cool. Crispee, you should apologize or at least admit to yourself that you blew it. We all do at times. Sounds like Cyde conducted himself quite professionally in the situation. I have been a U of H fan and season tcket holder from time to time and overall Clyde helped the program.
Yeah, neither does Barkley, Iverson, Rodman...but you know, those Stockton and Malone guys have class to their fans who measure that type of stuff. Hey, TheFreak, like Swindell said about the Yankees...."mystique and aura are names for strippers"...I say, class is also a word you have to believe in. Jenna believes Malone and Stockton have class, and Barkley, Iverson and Rodman are "punks." I believe Drexler is a politician who has a mother with class. hey, do you really think I believe I can belittle Drexler, or more importantly, that he would believe it.
Barkley, Rodman, Malone, and Stockton have nothing to do with this. You walked up to a man who had done nothing to you, didn't even know you existed...and insulted him. THAT is classless. And then you say he deserves it? Is it any wonder why some athletes spit on fans?
It seems like a lost opportunity, to me. Of all the things I would have said to Clyde Drexler, given the opportunity you had, none of them would have been insults, and few would have been about an undrafted rookie free agent who's played about 20 minutes in his NBA career. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Clyde was a terrible coach for the Cougars... but I was happy that he made the effort. Brought some positive national attention to his (and my) alma mater that it would have never gotten otherwise. Clyde also said yesterday that he's still a Rocket at heart! This even though he played most of his career in Portland and is currently working for the Nuggets.
