Ok, there is someone going out of their way to destroy my friends' lives. They are dating each other and some random anonymous person has been causing problems which can't be ignored any longer. When they call on the phone, its always from an anonymous number. Google and hotmail won't help. How useless. This person is creating accounts just to destroy people's lives. They have also been able to get their hands on account passwords causing my friends' families a lot of grief in the process. What can I do? I absolutely must know who is so intent on ruining other people's lives.
I'd love to help you, but I am but a lowly internet wizard and haven't attained my superwizard certification yet. I'm taking the test next week though...
Internet wizards would probably call the sites that have been comprimised and get the IP access log....probably can be requested right from the site itself. Also, if there is serious hassling on the phone, my wizard hat tells me to get the police to trace the calls. Now, I must go back to drinking my warlocks brew of morning Star bucks. DD
Thought of that. The telephone company and mail sites won't help me. Police won't help unless there is physical danger. Is there any way I can personally get the IP address of the person who is emailing?
This is a flaw in the way VoIP interacts with the traditional phone system. I believe that it is pretty much impossible to trace if someone spoofs the phone number info.
Ok I have an IP address. Problem is for some reason these programs can only trace the country of the IP address but not the computer. Anyone got any ideas? Note: Thanks for the tip DaDa, found some interesting web programs.
I can't wait to jump to internet superwizard from just a lonely internet ninja. Although, I like my internet ninja stars.
I am a superwizard but not an internet superwizard per se but if you want me to do anything else you can ask me
You can trace the IP to the owner but that's generally going to be the ISP. Sometimes it will be a company but not very often. You can try contacting the owners but they most likely won't give out any information unless there are police and/or a court order. You may be able to talk them into sending the person a warning though, it may scare them into stopping. To look up the owner go to http://dnstools.com/ and do a Whois (IP Owner) lookup on the address.
