Hey guys i really need yalls help. I am going to apply to DUke, Tulane, Vanderbilt, ATM(already guranteed entance b/c top 10%) , Stanford, U of Miami. But where i need help is makin my mind up on two points...I have visited and all are equal to me so that s why i came to yall 1. Where should i go.. say i got accepted to all. I want to be a doctor and they all have fine med programs but dont kno what to do. If any of yall graduated form or visited these universities and had any input into which is the better school ( i am not worried about the football team or any sports teams) Education precedes that right now. Any info would be much appreciated 2. If i apply for early decision i would know by mid-december which school i was accepted into. Which would help a lot but the only thing is u can only do that for one school and if u get accepted u have to go there. SO is it worth the couple of stress freemonths and if so which one. I REALLY NEED HELP. I have already started to STRESS big time so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys i kno i can count on the CLutch BBS..and if u want to send me more then u post the email is texassenior2004@hotmail.com
I'd go to Duke. You know you'll have a chance to win the NCAA tourney every year . . . In truth, I'd go to Stanford though. But I wouldn't get too stressed out by this decision. IMO, it's not where you go to college that matters, but what you do there.
are there NO other factors important to you at all?? if that's it, then I'd go to Duke or Stanford. i think I'd lean towards Duke.
why does someone with the name "lnghrn4life" not have UT on their short list? it would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than any of those other private schools you have listed... where you get your undergrad isnt as important as how well you do and your grad test scores...
Don't come to A&M unless you are down with being an Aggie and don't mind small town life. Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years, Just 2 more years. . .
Stanford has the worst grade inflation in the nation. If you want an education with real teeth, avoid it. If you want to work your ass off and get an excellent education, I sincerely don't think it's the right place anymore. But if you want to coast through college, learn to sound as if you know what you're talking about for the duration of a martini, and get an elitist stamp of approval, then you'll know what to do.
As you can probably guess from my screen name I went to Vanderbilt. Have nothing but GREAT things to say about Vandy and how it has been recieved since I have graduated (in '01). Good thing your not worried about sports because it does not get anymore pathetic then Vandy. All of the schools you listed will provide you with a great education, it just depends on what you are after. They are all top tier schools and you can't go wrong with any of them. If you have questions about vandy... shoot me an email jk5566@hotmail.com I would be happy to help.
Stanford sucks, Duke is a little better. You'll get a better arts background there with out all the liberal hoo haa.
Stanford or Duke- they will open the most doors for you. Living in California would be lots of fun, but expensive.
I don't think any ONE of those schools "opens more doors" then the other. Its all what you make of it. Visit the schools and go with the one where you feel like you will have the best time.
I'd go with Stanford and then Duke. Also, you should add UT to your list. Academically, I think it's better than the other schools that you have listed.
I'm confused. Your moniker states that you're a Horn fan for life. Yet, you're considering aggy? Tulane and Vandy are decent, but far too expensive for the quality of education you will receive. Miami is a 2nd tier university, to that's out. If you can get into Duke or Stanford go for it. Anyone who turns down a Stanford education is insane. It's located in Palo Alto, surrounded by giant redwood trees, and is probably one of the nicest campuses I've ever been to. Not to mention that Stanford is the #1 engineering program in the nation, and located in the heart of the tech industry.
I don't think that this is really a question for us to answer. What you have to do is figure out which school gives YOU the chance to be successful. If all schools have good med programs then you have to figure out where you fit in best. Talk to/e-mail some teachers or department heads. Find out the different attitudes and philosophies towards education at each school. Some schools may have professors who interact w/ students and get on their ass when they fall behind and others may be more sink or swim. Which works best for you? Find out class sizes. Do you perform better when there are alot of people in a competitive environment or do you do better when the classes are smaller and you can get more specialized attention? Every school is a little different so just find the one that gives you the best opportunity to do well.
I wouldn't apply early decision unless you are absolutely sure that that's where you want to go. i only applied to one school, so early decision was right for me. but since you have so many good options, you shouldnt limit yourself.
After talking to more and more people, it's becoming clearer that anyone can get a quality education at ANY major, reputable university. And it's becoming less important where you get your undergrad. degree, as long as you have one. With good grades, good recommendations, and your charming personality, you'll be able to get into almost any good medical school. I don't care for A&M too much. Mostly, it's because I lost all of my friends to it. I really can't stand to be around them anymore because of the "cult-like" mentality. Please note that this is not a knock against all Aggies, just a few. Many in my family are Aggies and they're cool as anything! Part of the reason I chose UH was the excellent research and academics as well as the price. The school itself is totally underrated (hopefully Gogue will change that). Duke will cost a lot unless you have scholarships. But out of your choices, that's the one I'd pick. Like Vengeance said, it's not where you go to school, but what you make of it. Any school can get you where you want to be, as long as you let it. I know it's a tough decision. I made it 4 years ago. Now it's about deciding where to go to Law School. You'll do great anywhere. Good luck!
WOw guys thanks for all the response.sorry i havnt been able to get back sooner.. Ok with the whole Ut thing i was a longhorn for many years of my life and last spring break i went and visited the campus..welll They were having an anti-war rally and gay rights(not tryin to offend anyone) but all that was just too liberal for my blood(no offense) And i also discovered i didnt like the whole capitol city political issue with Austin anyways but ..i just have been too lazy to change my sn..I still follow UT sports religiously though so anyways..
