I live about 15 minutes from town; out in the country. I live alone in a 3000 square foot home and while I live in a community, there isnt a house close to me. Long story short.....I constantly hear noises because of the wild animals and it constantly wakes me up and I get little or no sleep most nights. I worry about these noises because they can become quite violent; sometimes it can tend to sound like someone is breaking in. The fact that I have a recurring dream where this car on flames is driving as fast as possible and crashing into my home doesn't help matters LOL.

    Anyway, I saw this:

and was wondering if any experts can help me find something that will give me peace of mind at night and allow me to finally sleep!

Yes, I have been up all night; never went to bed because of a violent noise.

How can anyone rob or hurt a Rockets fan that makes fudge????

But really, the above alarm from e-bay is a joke, my girlfriend had one of those that her parents picked up for her from RadioShack for her apartment when she was in college..

If you're looking for something to make noise when a door or window is opened it will get the job done, but they aren’t loud enough to scare anyone away and if they did break in, all the intruder would have to do is find the control pad (It contains the siren) and break it to make it stop.. The only thing I did like about the system is you could connect it to a phone line and it would dial a number you program into it and would play a prerecorded message to the receiver if the alarm was tripped and was not turned off after a few minutes.. If I lived out in the country like you I'd pop for a legit alarm from ADT or Brinks..

You could just move to Houston where you would know for certain it was a human breaking into your house and not have to wonder between a human and an animal...

You might want to invest in a weapon of your liking. Also a fire r****dant suit would put those other worries to rest.

I've tried sleeping with a weapon under my pillow and a fire r****dant suit on and, trust me, it does NOT let me sleep. The gun makes the pillow bumpy and the suit makes me sweat. How's that a solution??? :(

    ;)
Say, emoreland, can you remotely monitor this equipment for response? I am wondering how much the monitoring will cost or if a monitoring service @ ~$50/mo. will accept using it.

So now you'll have flashing lights and sirens to go along with the wild animal sounds. Maybe you should just get a mercury vapor light to light up the outside and get one of those devices that plugs in to an outlet and makes an (inaudible to the human ear) high pitched squeal that scares animals away.

here's something, but it has lights too: http://www.smarthomepro.com/6110.html

You could prepare your house with luscious, fudgy booby traps... Remember what happened to Augustus Gloop... :)

Ask your insurance company what qualifies for discounts. That should be a pretty good start at securing your home. Getting a security system installed may even save you money overall, as well as give you peace of mind.

I read something like 60% of all break-ins are through the front door. I posted some things you can do in this thread:
