Anyone care to recap what went on, 'cause I was outa town and completely missed the whole damned thing.
A-Rod got hit, there was a bench clearing brawl. The brawl ended. The game continued. The Red Sox won. ESPN talked about it non-stop for 48 hours. That's pretty much it.
Well, they had to make up for the lack of Lakers coverage somehow. Ugh. It's gotten to the point where I want the Yankees to miss the playoffs, and the Red Sox to then finish one game behind the Yankees every year. I'm sick of both franchises.
Was he plunked or was it a wild pitch? Did he charge the mound? All I know is he got tangled up with their catcher pretty good. Again, I was outa town, so I missed the 48 hour coverage on ESPN
Bronson Arroyo is one of the league leaders when it comes to hit batters. He threw what looked like a sinker and it hit Rodriguez around his elbow. It is debateable if Arroyo purposely threw at him, but considering that he has hit a lot of batters already, I say probably not. You know when a pitcher intentionally throws at a guy - fastball that is up and in or behind him (example when Pedro hit Sheffield earlier this year). At any rate, Rodriguez started talking and wolfing at Arroyo, Varitek got in between them to protect Arroyo and then Rodriguez started with him, saying "F*ck You" several times (clearly visible in the replays) and then waved his hand at Varitek as a challenge. Varitek responded by shoving him in the face with his mitt. And then it went from there. But I agree that it has been covered to DEATH by ESPN. I am truly surprised that you would have to start this thread - just turn it on ESPN now and I am sure they are still talking about it.
Watson came down hard. 4 games each for Varitek and A-Rod. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1848742
