Maybe it's because I haven't had a team involved in the NBA playoffs for, oh, an eternity, but the NHL is quickly overtaking the NBA playoffs as the most exciting sporting event out there. Anyone else watching this stuff? It's great!!!!

Devils? Penguins? Doesn't matter, they'll be buried under the AVALANCHE!!!!!!!!! [IMG]

Today the Nuggets announced that Dan Issel would be back as head coach next season. In related news, the NBA announced that the Nuggets have been mathematically eliminated from the 2002 NBA playoffs already.

There's been more topics about testicles and rectums in this forum over the last month than hockey.

I guess that tells you how much people in this forum care about hockey.

Since houston still doesnt have an NHL team I am still rooting for the Stars (after my local Canes got booted by the devils) But now i'll go for the Avs. I will root for them b/c I hate NJ and Ray Borque Deserves a title

Damn you, Nugget...the Avalanche are my most HATED professional sports franchise behind the Utah Jazz and New York Yankees.

That comes from being a Coyotes fan...we'll be your b**** for years to come, I'm afraid. [IMG]

As far as the Stanley Cup, I wouldn't rule out the Devils, but I would have to agree that the Avalanche are looking pretty unstoppable right now.

Aren't the hockey playoffs getting some miserable ratings? I think of hockey as more of a cult sport. I tried getting into it, but still haven't been able to.

Go Minnesota Wild! I didn't even know Minnesota had a NHL team.

The Aeros are now the Wild's developmental (minor league) team.

Amen brotha, the 'Lanche are winning Lord Stanley's holy grail this year! Because Bourque has been around for so long (22 seasons) and because he's such a class act, I've been rooting for Colorado since he came West last season. I've also been a fan of 'no ordinary' Joe Sakic for years, and just love the atmosphere at the Pepsi Centre. They're easily my favourite American-based team right now (Flames are my numero uno) However, Jersey is looking almost as unbeatable as the Lakers right now, and with Forsberg out for the Avs, Colorado will be going in as underdogs. But I still believe they will prevail.

As for hockey interest on this board, I've been meaning to post a playoff thread in this forum for weeks, but when I realized the majority of the posters here are burried deep in southern texas, I figured interest would be low. Of course, there are exceptions (johhny rocket), which is testament to the growing appeal of the coolest game on earth in such "tropical" locales. My fellow clutchcity bretheren, I urge you to watch some hockey this spring, and discover the excitement of the fastest team sport on this planet. Come play-off time, there is no sport that can match its intensity, suspense and speed - not even basketball. If you play the sport, like I do (not organized mind you), you gain an even greater appreciation of how much pain the players go through and the physical endurance needed to compete at even the lowest levels.

Look at me, I sound like a talking brochure. [IMG] But I mean every minute of it. And its got nothing to do with the fact that I am Canadian. [IMG]

dude anyone who thinks hockey sucks needs to get their head out of their ass! Watch a game....these guys have balls and can take hits... You can knock the crap out of someone and not get fouled like the boring-ass NBA playoffs.....

ZRB.....name one good game worth watching during the NBA playoffs this year.....With hockey....the goals actually mean something!

    Go Avs!!!

All right! I knew I could get some discussion here!!

slcrocket, I do'nt hate the Coyotes since you guys got rid of Cementhead Keith Tkachuk. I was glad you guys rewarded Burke in fact instead of sticking with Khabi....um, the other goalie. [IMG]

Azim, Bourque is a stud. I knew he was loved in Boston, but didn't know why until we got him. Man, he is the consumate pro. It was great watching him get a goal in 4 straight games against the Blues. I used to post on an Avs board (before it went to hell) that a lot of Red Wings fans liked to post on. They all kept calling Bourque washed up and saying we were gonna lose in the first round while htey hoisted the Cup.

    Oops. Sucks to be them!!!!

Game 1 Saturday night at 6 (Mountain time) and naturally, I HAVE TO WORK!!! UGH!!! So I will tape the game, come straight home and watch the thing threatening to kill anyone that tells me the score.

Hey, it's playoff hockey. There isn't anything more important. [IMG]

    Games 1, 3, 5 of the Mavs-Jazz

Games 1-7 of both eastern semis.

Game 1 of the eastern finals.

    Game 5 Raptors-Knicks

    Game 4 Sixers-Pacers

Not many good games in the west, but the east has produced some thrillers. I'm sorry, I just can't see the excitement in a final score of 1-0, or a TIE GAME! That's just me though...

Thats the best part of the playoffs NO TIES!! they play anywhere from a part of an extra period to and extra 5 and there are only 3 periods in the game to begin with.

The problem is that every game in the playoffs seems to go to overtime. They need to open the game up more, less goonery. Plus, I think a lot of people have a hard time getting excited over a game they've never played except on playstation. =)

Hockey does make the best sports game on Playstation. I think the sport is pretty cool, but I have a very hard time getting into it. I think I'm too old and set in my ways to learn a new sport, and I won't be able to enjoy it until I learn it.

I love hockey, unfortunatley my Columbus Blue Jackets have been out golfing for awhile!
But it is an awesome sport. TV does it no justice. If you ever go to a game you will be hooked. It is very physical and so much stuff happens away from the puck! Plus these guys are tough. Forsberg lost his spleen in the playoffs but there is talk he may make it back!
I think Jersey will win though. Arnott is a stud. A 6'2 225 center who likes to hit and who can score.
    Hockey is great!

Hey, man, I loved Tkachuk... [IMG]

My favorite game on Playstation for hockey had to be NHL 2000. I like it better than ANY other hockey games I've sampled.

    Give it a rent sometime.

Game 1 tomorrow at 8:00 EST. Go Avs!

Almost all the experts have the Devils winning, with good reason, but don't count out these bunch of winners. I just read the other day that Bourque has played more championshipless seasons than any other player in the 4 major sports. He's about 6 ahead of both Charles and Karla.

As for those questioning hockey, watch a game live! ZRB, just because the games are low scoring does not imply its boring. With the exception of basketball, high scoring games in other sports definately do not always translate to exciting games. If low scoring means boring play, how does that explain soccer's global appeal?
