Let me preface by stating that VH1 is my new favorite channel!

Did anyone catch the "I Love the '80s" marathon yesterday? Since I was watching bowl games all day, I recorded the last few and watched it today.

    GREAT STUFF!!!

So many memories brought back to surface that my mind is spiraling as I type!

Random musings that came through my head while watching the shows:

I was 11 years old when the California Raisins debuted. I had no idea they were singing Motown at the time... I actually thought the people who sang for them were making up songs. Yeah, 10 is a dumb age.

They even showed some classic PSA. Like the crash test dummies and the Madonna "use a condom".

Terrence Trent D'arby. I actually forgot he existed until today. That "Wishing Well" song was one of my favorites back then!

Am I the only one who ate "Teddy Grahams" for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Cinnamon was my favorite!

The "Ed Lover dance"... man I used to laugh my ass of at that!

Why doesn't "The Wonder Years" come on TV anymore? When they replayed that theme song, I just felt so great. I remember loving to watch that show, and especially Winnie. Ditto for "Perfrect Stangers" That "Happy Dance" was classic.

I had no idea that UB40 was a British band until today. Talk about being out of the loop!

Damn, the first concert I ever went to was a Milli Vanilli concert in 1989. I was a huge fan! Ugh...

Anyone else have "Tetris" dreams besides me?

Who could have seen Keanu Reeves becoming a huge star after "Bill & Ted"? Seriously? (I use the term huge star very loosely)

Those "Baby on Board" signs... man I hated them.

Anyways, thanks VH1 for allowing me to reminisce!

Dude, I missed bowl games to watch as much as I could. I am an eighties kid, and the things they brought up just put me in a time warp. VH1 deserves much props. Hall and Oates, Arsenio Hall, Rappers Delight to start the decade, Public Enemy to end it. Ozzy, Emilio, Ferris, Andrew Dice Clay, the music, the actors, the greed. Great decade.

    Guilty pleasures confession time....

The 80's were when I was old enough to know how to have real fun...and still young enough to go do it!

I watched the 80's marathons last week when they were running them 2 a night..

Great stuff...I especially loved the parts from 82-87....mainly about hairbands and other quasi metal bands..I admit it...

besides IM and JP..most of my cd collection is of stuff that was released between 79 and 89...except for stinkin Poison (ugh)...

I hope to catch it and tape the next time they show it...

    Ah.....memories..:D

My favorite things from the 80s:

My Hakeem Olajuwon, red, yellow and white Etonic high tops (still have them)

My Vans sneakers (no shoe laces rocked)

Transformers (my dad kicked my ass once because I broke one 5 mins after he gave it to me for Xmas (he had to wait in line 2 hours to get the one I wanted))

    My black Members Only Jackets

My Izod tshirts which I wore to school EVERY day

    My Schwinn Diamond Back bicycle

Parachute pants (my brother and I use to break dance on a piece of cardboard in our driveway, much to the rest of the neighborhood's delight)

My Betamax VCR (that was REAL technology back then)

    My older brother's Pontiac Fiero

Going to the arcade on Friday nights to hang out

Going to the roller rink on Saturday nights to hang out

IMHO, nothing will ever top the 80s. :D

I think that song actually was made circa 1990, not the 80s. :D

moot point, it did enough damage to destroy both the 90s and 80s :D

Oh yeah! Vans and hackey sackin after lunch in the school quad...those were the days!! Those Vans absolutley rocked as the best hackeying shoes ever!

Had a black members only jacket...wore it till mid 85...so comfortable...

Izod?? please...no way we would have been caught dead in one of them preppy shirts..:p

Parachute pants....oh yea!! Imagine this if you will...

Parachute pants(varying colors) with black and white checkered vans...bandanas tied from just on top of the shoes to the knee...various studded leather gauntlets and wristbands and belts...ripped up concert shirts...sleeveless and with rips all over em..and feathered roach clips hanging from our dangly earrings and shirts..

We ACTUALLY dressed like that!
scary lookin back on it...but the girls seemed to like it...:D

Betas rocked! I loved that monster tape player( it was twice as thick and half again as wide as the VHS decks in use these days..

Arcades...oh yea...I could play Joust and Defender for hours on one quarter...spent many many many hours parked in arcades..

Roller rink was more of a 70's thing with us..

the 80's were a blast!...unfortunetly, I spent way too much of the time wasted...does hellacious things to the memory..I only remember like half of the things we did...It's a wonder I'm still alive!

I watched an episode. Then I saw the GTA Vice City commercial.

And I ran, I ran so far away,
I just ran, I ran all night and day,
    I couldn't get away.

It was great to see clips of Tyson in his prime as well. I almost forgot what a badass he used to be!

Speaking of TV shows... I really wish "Head of the Class" was in syndication too.

I remember it was on Nickelodeon about 5 years ago, but then disappeared.

I had the hardest time placing Rain Pryor on the VH1 specials... I knew I had seen her on TV before. Thank god for iMDB!

What about He-Man coming out of the closet? Pink clothes, secret only his closest friends knew about, power of the sword, skeletons (Skeletor). The name He-Man? Then they actually showed him being humped by Beastman. You can't make that type of stuff up.

"I Ran" was great, but "Space Age Love Song" and "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" were even greater.

Damn, Smokey, now I am going to have to listen to my Flock of Seagulls greatest hits before I go to bed tonight!:D

I'm not sure which is scarier...Hydra knowing Vanilla Lice, or you owning Flock of Seagulls Greatest Hits (they had more than one?)

How could they do an 80's documentary and not mention Men at Work. Now those guys made hits.

Question - Anyone remember the name of the Men at Work song where in the end of the video the guy mistakenly puts his cigarette/cigar out on the red button thinking that it was an ashtray and blew up the world?

Uh, I think they did...I know for sure that they covered Men Without Hats

Ah we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're are no friends of mine
I say, we can go where we want to, A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind,
    and we can dance

Oh god...it's stuck in my head...it wont go away!! Arrggghh..

    AHHHH the Safety Dance.

I used to sing a special version of that song every time I dropped someone for a safety in Tecmo Bowl. I am the greatest Tecmo Bowl player ever. E-V-E-R.
