Those of you who still hate that draft-night trade: Exactly what holes were you hoping to fill with our pick? If I were to sit down and try to write out all the things last year's roster was missing, they'd be all the things this guy has brought us. In your fantasy league, he's not much. On the court in the real world, he's everything: taking the charges, batting the ball out for offensive rebounds, making all the right rotations on defense, all the right movements without the ball on offense. He's just the smartest, hardest-working guy out there every night. Oh, and that was him on tonight's final play, getting out in front of the 3-point shooter with hands up (after we'd thrown the ball away at half court and were totally unprepared to defend) and NOT fouling when the game literally depended on it. Hustle, glue, alertness, dirty work, cunning, inspiration, great decisions, and he can shoot. He's exactly what the doctor ordered.
I agree with everything you said, except your comment on the final play. Why should he get credit for not fouling? There was no reason for him to even be contesting that shot. And all these "Fire JVG" comments are really tired. People are going to find an excuse to blame him for anything bad that happens. You can nitpick the decisions of any coach in the NBA, so just stop it.
great thread he is a hustler I loved seeing him dropping onto the floor and grabbing the ball like a monster go Shane
Final play? He didn't screw up totally, cause he didn't foul him, but he should've just let it go. He shouldn't have even been within 10 feet of him.
Shane missed some shots tonight that could have stopped the run. But he did well drawing all these charges. He got burned by Ben Gordon, but he's a 6'9'' SF guarding a very quick 6'2'' combo guard on fire with his J.
i guess so, seeing as we were up by 4, no need to even go near him - could you imagine if he made a 4-point play and sent the game into OT???
It was also him that threw the pass to get the turnover in the first place. Of course he was defending the three. He didn't move from that spot after throwing that sh*tty pass.
Shane made a very, very uncharacteristically stupid mistake by playing defense during that last play. Who knows what the ref will call with Noc's flopping and questionably whistles. Other than that, he was very good.
Hmmm .... comments we wish we could take back. Let's just forget that part about the last play tonight, OK? I didn't do the math. I guess neither did he. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln ... I love Shane Battier.
What happens when he loses his quicks? OK, his next five years will likely produce better basketball and more wins than the athletic Rudy Gay. I love the guy. (I STILL believe they could have gotten back more from Griz grrrr, but I am still satisfied with + SB + the loss of SS - loss of RG.) Now, this team needs a sniper. A spot up 3-pt monster. Know anyone who could fit that bill?
exactly. i love how he said "we'd thrown the ball away" when it was battier who didn't spot t-mac's runout until it was too late and then threw a crappy loopy pass. yeah but since he's stroking battier it's "we".
Battier and Hayes are the only 2 starters we can count on night in and night out to hustle and play hard. Battier is one of the best role players in the NBA, and a major reason we are 6-3 this year. This team needs solid role players that play within themselves..... BATTIER ROCKS !! DD
