I love those places, great deals galore, and today Sam's Club was great.

My 4 year old broke our LCD by tossing a Wii remote right into the center off it during the Ice storm this winter, so I went to Sam's club and bought a 42" replacement LCD.

Just this last month it started to have these lines when trying to display TV or when we switched from one component input to another, so I called Sam's club and told them about it.

They asked if I had my receipt (Uh, never...dang it) and then they looked it up and said, yep, here it is ....and said, bring the TV and remote with the manual and we will swap it out for a new one.

I then said...how much is this TV going for right now, as I paid $1399, they said it had dropped to $799, so I said, can I get another TV that is worth $1399 now instead? And they said, sure.

So, I took my 42" Akai TV in, and got a brand new Visio 47" LCD (1080P of course)...for a few dollars more.

    WOOOHOOO !!!

No more lines and the game room just got better.

I LOVE Sam's Club and Cosco.............I like Cosco better overall, but am very satisfied with my Sam's club experience.

I have the 42 Inch Vizio that i did a lot of research on. They are really nice TV's.

I bought mine from Costco after finding out that the manufacturer adds 1 year extra warranty if you buy from them and then the sales man told me that if i use my AMEX to buy the TV that they tack on 1 more year. So now my TV has a 3 year manufacturers warranty basically because i bought it at Costco.

    Its Costco.

Here is a good recent article about how Costco is the anti Walmart:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/17/b...tml?ex=1279252800&en=8b31033c5b6a6d68&ei=5088

They pay their employees on average $17 a hour, which is 42% more than what they pay at Sam's. Nearly all have health and dental insurance and Costco is looked very favourably by the unions.

Their markups on goods cannot be more than 14-15%.

Yes, Sam's prices are cheaper, but that is because they sell inferior goods according to the Costco CEO.

The thing about CostCo is you need to have a coupon to avail a discount. Sam's club, everything is discounted already. Last time I checked the prices of LCD, CostCo was more expensive by over a hundred if you don't have a that darn coupon. TRicky.

Oh, he wasn't mad when he broke the former TV (still sitting in my garage, hoping one day I can find another one on Ebay that has something else broken and I can scrounge em together to get one healthy unit).

He just didn't put the wrist strap on and lost control.

But, now that you mention it, he HATES to lose now...HATES it....and will throw a fit if he is losing, so much so that he tries to start the game over.

My wife and I are trying like heck to break him of this, show him that it is ok to just do your best.....

Everytime he whines or throws a fit, he loses the ability to play the rest of the day........

So far, he does better but eventually......he loses his cool.....and has to go to his room and loses his gaming privildges....

It is kinda funny but I have to get him to stop, he got mad in soccer this year because he only scored 3 goals in the game and missed the 4th....

We won like 25-3.........our team was stacked.

I heard they are building a Costco near Greenway Plaza. Does anyone know if that is true?

DD, I found that the HP laptop I recently bought for my son was $200 cheaper at Costco. (yes, the new southwest Costco, out our way) Exact same laptop, built to order, but purchased through Costco. A dv6500t, with the new Intel Santa Rosa motherboard. A real screamer with an excellent Nvidia graphics card. And it's my understanding that they double the warranty, although I don't know if that applies to computers. Of course, I didn't discover this until a couple of weeks after the new one arrived from FedEx at the door. :(

Still, Costco can give a remarkable value, if they have what you need.

You need to give him the immortal words of wisdom from Sean Connery...

    Heh,

Don't tell my wife, but I LOVE that he is that competitive....he is our youngest and is a REALLY good athlete too......

He was the youngest kid in the soccer league, too young to play by 3 months but they let him in, and he averaged about 3 goals a game......this fall (with me still as his coach), I plan to get him up to 5 goals a game.

My firm is looking to hire winners. Tell your son to send me an email about a position at my place of work.

Yes......Richmond and Weslayan......all that empty land they have there now.

Costco is THE place to get good wines at good prices. Their buyer really does his homework.

    ROFLMAO !! He is 4.

    :D

Pole, I have been unimpressed with the wine selection at our Cosco, do you mean the selection at the liquor store attached, or is there a selection inside of Cosco?

I do like the Spec's warehouse selection though, but there is a big liquor store out here in Oak hill that has an AWESOME selection.....

Costco beats the crap out of Sams. The food at Costco alone is worth the membership. I buy this killer buffalo jerky there, as well as big bags of tuna steaks, cases of beer and cooked jumbo shrimp. It might be more expensive, but it's way better quality than Sams.

Hmm... I never buy anything from Costco, but I may have to re-think this. How much are the jerky, tuna and shrimp? And hopefully they're not elephant-sized bags of them. :D

The only reason I have a membership at Costco is for car insurance discounts. The one time I recently tried to buy something from Costco online, they stiffed me... damn PS3 that I doubt was ever really in stock even though they gleefully accepted my order.

Seriously? Damn, I may need to get in on that...I've been in the market for a little bit and this sounds too good to be true, but if it is, hell yeah...

I can vouch for the food at Cosco, we get some roasted chickens, which are bout twice the size of the HEB ones, and less money and also the large ready to bake pizzas.....$7 for a HUGE pizza that feeds 5 or more.

The food is great, just great.......

I stopped by Sams today to pick up a case of Lo-Carb Monster.

I ended up getting Batman Begins and The Shawshank Redemption for 5 bucks each, then They had Thank you for Smoking and Sideways in a double pack for 7.50.

4 great movies for 17.50. Not friggin bad.
