Seriously...I want Del Taco back. Bring me back my Del Taco. Anyone else remember eating at one of their restaurants here in town?
Geez, Max, Del Taco was nasty! I remember eating there a couple of times and getting some of the worst food ever. Ugh.
yeah there was one on 290 @ Jones Rd. (its a Whataburger now) they had hamburgers there too, which were pretty good
we had one on memorial just east of dairy ashford. they're still big out west. lots of locations in colorado, nevada, california. i think they still have a presence out in west texas, too...particularly in el paso. del taco rocked casbah. far better than taco bell. far better.
...rocked the casbah. C'mon, Max, if you wana run with the old guys, get the language right. I never cared for Taco Bell either. To me, Tex-Mex was never a meal served thru a window.
if i wanted the "the" in there..i would have put it in. are you assuming i don't know how the song goes??? it's far more fun to say it merely "rocked casbah." go on...say it for yourself! look..i'm not comparing it to Ninfas...or Guadalajara...or any other sit-down Tex-Mex joint. i'm not comparing it to Pappadeaux, either. but as fast food goes...Del Taco mother falcon ROCKED CASBAH!
I agree with Max. Del Taco was real food. You could order different things and they actually tasted different....no knock on Taco Bell...well ok, yes it is.
That's my point. You young guys always looking for the quick and easy way, instead of going the distance. Say it right or don't say it at all. U-totem? I came from a small town. No fancy high priced national chains for us. We hung over at Bill's grocery, until Bill closed down at 6pm and sent us home.
The U-Totem was Rad! I remember when we collected coke bottles and returned them to the Tote for the deposit. Good times.
Max- Its freaking 7:18am and you are thinking about Del Taco? Did you have a dream about it or something?? I always thought Del Taco was kinda nasty. We had one across the street from my high school on Louetta and Stuebner Airline.
That is what I was going to say. In fact Los Angeles has a lot of old school H-town food still available. Del Taco - they are everywhere Shakey's Pizza - I haven't been to one that shows silent movies, but still... Der Weinerschnitzel- they just took of the 'Der' Though, at one of them there are pictures of all the old ones with the 'Der' still in place. The only thing they don't have is Two Pesos, which was a million times better than Taco Cabana.
Del Taco and Taco Bell - some of the crappiest food you will ever eat... until you mention Long John Silver's... then you have some competition. Where's a vomit emoticon?
Long John Silver's rocks the house. But I remember on my last trip to California and visiting a Del Taco. For some reason I was just freaked out by a taco place that also serves french fries.
We had a Del Taco in Port Arthur Texas for about a month in 1982. they closed and never reopened. Closed right after Long John Silvers. It is now a beauty parlour. Ate there twice - food was ok, but my standards are pretty lax when I'm hungry. I wonder what kind of meat they sold at U-Totem? - note the sign in the picture. U-Totem was more of a beer stop for me -do not drink much now, but made many singles stops years ago. If visiting Port Arthur, I recommnend eating at small restaurants on 9th Ave. -very good soups and coffee. Also lettuce wraps.
I thought that meant meats as in ham, balogna, and maybe the rotating hot dogs that are under a heat lamp for 24 hours. I don't remember if UTotem had the hot dogs spinning like 7-Eleven, though.
