Our superstars are in their mid to late 20s and not on rookie contracts. Their star is still on his rookie deal for a couple more years. when Howard signs his 6 year 100 million dollar deal, they wont have the cap room either. also, I dont think they always have had cap room. This is the first year they get past the Grant Hill contract and that is why they have so much cap space.

Also having cap space doesnt mean that much. Look at the teams this year who have major cap space. Orl, Cha, Mem, and Milwaukee. None of those teams are exactly in great positions.

And then traded Francis to NY for Penny Hardaway. Whom they waived.

And in the meantime got partial service from Grant Hill on a max contract. Which just expired.

Not sure that's the path the Rockets ought to follow.

    just a typo,dont cry.
i just remember them having the money to sign tmac and grant hill, and it seems like they are always in the running to land someone, thats all,and with the rumor of lewis wanting to go there and us being a longshot, yes it is a roadblock to get him.

With Rashard and Howard, they will then be strapped in cash for sometime, like the Rockets.

the sonics are also a roadblock, as well as assets that the sonics would want in a sign and trade.

The Rockets have never tried to get way under the cap in the hopes of trying to sign free agents. The last big signing was probably the Quitten S&T that was only possible because of the selflessness of the great Charles Barkley. The Rockets have been mostly trading for talent and resigning their own players, with free agents coming through the MLE. The failure of the Magic to sign Tim Duncan and having to settle for broken down Grant Hill shows the danger of trying to get way under the cap.

LOL watch Orlando make a huge SPLASH in free agency like the one they did in 2000 with Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady. Also watch 2 years later when Dwight Howard will either walk away or demand a trade out of that terrible organization that can't build squat on it's on and has to rely on lotto picks and centers who use them as a training facility and jump ship when their time to blow up comes calling *coughshaqcough*. :D
