No joke Allstate would not lower my new policy which was 2200 for 6 months (including 1023 accounted for by my 19 year-old son). They said I was saving money my home-owner's insurance, As some of you might already know, that is not an issue anymore. There are 3 vehicles. Liability on my son's truck and comprehensive on the 2 others. There was a claim from last summer on it, or it would be even better. I called Geico and they got it down to a little over 1500. Have you checked for better rates recently? With gas and energy the way it is, something has to give. I'm also thinking of taking DD to save a little more. How are you saving money?
yea, i saved about 30% when i switched to them a couple of years ago. but then i went to farmers for a quote and they saved me an additional 15%. that just means i was getting ****ed in the a-hole by my first insurance company.
swilkins - Can you explain this to me a little more about the homeowners insurance? I also have Allstate and have stuck with them, because I have both my car and home insured with them. I've actually been thinking about calling Geico but was afraid that would mean Allstate would raise my homeowners insurance rate.
I started a thread about car insurance a few months ago saying that I was paying over $100/month on my 96 Blazer. I called Geico and they gave me the same coverage for like $30/month. I thought when I bought my new car in June, the rate would shoot back up again, but was pleasantly surprised to see that it only went up a little. I'm very happy with Geico. Their commercials are legit. Call 'em.
I have Progressive/Drivers Insurance because they are cheaper then Geico. I have to pay the full premium in full every six months, but the discount of doing so makes them cheaper then Geico. Someday, maybe my wife will actually have a clean driving record. Just about when she would no longer be penalized for her two tickets, wham, she has an at fault wreck. Note to all the single guys, marriage is more expensive then you can ever imagine.
I've got the echo the praise for Geico. They're rates were c-h-e-a-p (much lower than Progressive or Farmers) and their claims processing was beyond fast and efficient. After 2 years with Allstate (crap), Geico was a breath of fresh air. I'm on my eighth year with them, and couldn't be more pleased.
We use Geico on our cars and Nationwide for home. Geico was very helpful when our Ranger was vandalized. The same shop that took us when we had an All State claim took the Geico one. We got a rental car and the repair was quick.
Yeah, I switched to Geico just over two years ago from Farmers and my insurance bill was cut in half.
I got a quote from Geico two days ago, $130 a month for liability only. Allstate, $100 a mo. with comp. and collision, $250 deductables. Male, 25, 99 Eclipse w/ 5 year clean record. YMMV I guess...
crap, I need to do this...I always that it was bs... Allstate has my car, statefarm my house...What about claims...No run around?
We're also with Geico, have been for 10 years now. We had a fender bender about a year ago, wasn't our fault. Geico cut us a check in 48 hours that covered costs and then some and (since it wasn't our fault) didn't raise our premiums. Very happy with them.
Agreeing with everyone about Geico, and I aint a customer! Got in an accident on my kid's birthday earlier this year. Some old lady driving a PT Cruiser hit me from behind while I was sitting at a stop light. Crazy story, but I'll get to the point: Geico found fault with her and had someone at my house in a day to get my truck fixed. I was back on the road in two days. Since I didn't need a rental they even sent me a check for $120 for my trouble. If I didn't like my insurance so much I'd definitely give 'em a look.
Different carriers use different formulas. Driving record, car, area have a lot to do with it but also your credit has a lot to do with it. They have found that the worse your credit is, the more likely you are to file a claim. And even if your credit is good, if you have more than 1 credit inquiry (applying for credit from someone) or have revolving credit or have department store cards (non-major and non-gas credit cards), that will effect your rate. I knew that credit played a role but I didn't know the other until the latest issue of Consumer Reports - yea I'm old...
That's some expensive arse insurance. State Farm had wanted me to pay something like $900+ every 6 months back in late 2004 for my new car. This after being with those clowns for about 16-19 years I think. I got a Costco card for $45 or something and was able to get a discount thanks to Amex/Ameriprise insurance. I now pay around $420-$430 every 6 months for the same vehicle.
