So the last weeks my neck has been hurting. On Saturday my left eye was having spasms and It seemed like everything I ate was really bland. By yesterday morning, I was having trouble spitting out water after brushing and my left eye was really dry. My left side of my face was kinda numb like I had just gone to the dentist and had a shot. So I call my doctor and they said it sounds like Bell's Palsy. So today I go to the Doctor and after having a CT-Scan, it is determined I have Bell's. Bell's is characterised by facial drooping on the affected half, due to malfunction of the facial nerve (VII cranial nerve), which controls the muscles of the face. I've already on medication and tomorrow will be getting some device that sends electrical pulses to the nerves. My Bell's is not very severe and people at work didn't really notice anything except when I pointed it out. I hope it does not get any worse. Some famous people that have had it are John Travolta, George Clooney, Senator John McCain, Rosanne, Jim Ross of the WWE, Eddie Money and Pistol Pete Maravich to name a few. Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with this...since I have no idea how long I will have it....or show symptoms of it. Wish me luck!!!!!
One of my best friends got it during a poker game, we were like WOAH...dude, one side of your face is drooping....it freaked us out. He had it for about a month, then it just went away, If I remember correctly it has about a 95% chance of going away. Good luck with it. DD
Wow, good luck man. Keep us updated on your condition. Hope you have a safe and speedy recovery! Good luck!
stick with the treatment. My dad had it for a little while he would smile and only one side would work right. It made me really sad as a little kid that dad could not smile right for a while. Just stick with the treatment and yow ill be fine.
You guys actually saw it happen in person. That is weird...but I read it can happen very quickly. So it wasn't his "Poker Face" huh?? Hey...I have to have a sense of humor about it...my wife already calls me Popeye because when I laugh...half of my face reacts....kinda like Popeye!! Oh well....
First we noticed that one of his eyes was wide open and the other one squinty, we thought that he had something bothering his squinty eye but it turned out that was the healthy side....the wide open eye was the one with Bells Palsy, then he couldn't wink etc...and he freaked out. We took him to the emergency room they said Bells Palsy, we found out it was not serious and we RIDICULED him for the next month.....like all good friends do...... He got better, but it was a very strange thing to witness. DD
Thanks Big. Yeah I was told this electrical device...that BTW is going to cost me $225, works wonders and then I can use it for any part of the body since that is my co-pay and I am buying it. I was told it works great on any sore muscles.
Exactly...I have trouble closing my left eye. I can close both at the same time, but not the left by it's self. It's a real helpless feeling when your brain won't allow you to do what you want. This is my first bout with paralysis and it's pretty damn scary.
i had it about a month ago. the way you generally get it is from lymes disease or some type of herpes virus complex (not the normal herpes your thinking, more the cold sore on your mouth type I THINK) but anyhow i had a bad wisdom tooth infection and it lasted about a week it travelled to my throat some and ear. well while all that was about over and the infection was going away. i was brushing my teeth and washing my mouth out with water, bent down to spit it out and noticed while i was swishing i couldnt stop the water from coming out. and instantly reaslised that was weird, and within the hour i couldnt blink but one eye without noticeable effort and could only raise one eyebrow. what caused mine was the inflammation from my tooth. it sucked though, and was the first time in my life at the age of 27 i thought i had a real medical condition that would really effect me if my face didnt start working properly again. but it actually lasted less then a week or so. good luck. its very very likely that it will go away. so dont sweat it man
MMMMMM...I had a really nasty sore or ulcer in the back of my mouth less then two weeks ago. It could be the culprit. Thanks man and glad you got over it.
They also call it a truck driver's or motorcyclists' disease because the wind blowing hard on someone's neck can cause it, and a lot of those types would get it. It happens when your 6th cranial never (I Believe) is affected or paralyzed.
I had a friend at work that got it. He had it for 4 or 5 weeks and it just slowly went away. He's fine now. Good luck.
