I was coming back from the library about half an hour ago and decided to take a left on 29th instead of 28th. Most, if not all, of the lights on Guadalupe allow a yielded left turn. There is a separate light for turning left on 29th that I didn't even see. The cop was about 15 yards away from me. Honestly, I thought this light was also a yield, so I stopped, made sure there weren't any cars coming, and made a left turn. Then BAM, I saw these bright red and blue lights flashing behind me. The cop came out and asked me if I knew why I got pulled over. Not knowing there was a separate light for turning left, I said no. I explained my story and it seemed like she didn't give a damn about what I had to say. Did she really think I was dumb enough to run a red light when she was only 15 yards away from me? Damn. This is my first ticket, so I guess I'll have to take defensive driving to get this cleared. The safety packet costs $95 and the actual defensive driving class costs $30 while the actual ticket is $200. Are there any cheaper ways of getting this ticket dismissed besides going to court hoping the cop won't show up? I've always hated the roads in Austin - now I hate them even more.
I hate the drag, driving wise. I always just go down the Burger King, take a left there, and then come back the other way to find a parking spot. Tow truck drivers prey off that entire area, even towing pizza delivery guys durning the 3 mins they are going up to someone's door to deliver.
Are you talking about that separate left-turn only light on the pole in front of Toy Joy when you're heading north on Guadalupe? Because a lot of people miss that one. They really need to make it more visible.
Driving in Austin in general is kinda confusing. But you definitely need to pay extra attention to left turns on Guadalupe, a lot of them between MLK and 28th don't allow them at all at stoplights. Your first ticket? Suck it up, you've got nothing on me.
Everytime I've been to Austin I notice that a significant number of drivers fail to see the traffic light next to the Jimmy Johns on MLK. Very close calls for a lot of innocents.
do it on the internet it's cheaper and gets everything cleared...and screw austin cops for pulling people over for minor **** like that..there are so many one-way streets and so much road work they should cut people a freakin' break. they should stop killing people too...
