He was talking with two people who I had never seen before about what Americans should expect and how to prepare for it. One of his guests said something about anarchy and he suggested that people by a farm somewhere, learn how to grow their own, and arm up..... Seriously how is this guy still on the air? He makes Hannity seem sane.

One of the many people who cry for this country, and yet they make their country cry far more than they know.

No one's disputing that he has ratings/viewers.

I think the operative question is: Why?

Because most people do not think the same way that the typical poster in this forum does.

And that is a good thing.

Popularity is not an indicator of quality or truth.

    Enough NOT said.

And popularity is not a dis-indicator of quality or truth, either.

But seriously, you guys have to know that both radio and TV, whether cable or otherwise, are primarily driven by ratings and advertising dollars. You can try to spin this in some sort of partisan way if you want to, but it is all about the money. You do know that, right?

How many viewers does Jersey Shore or American Idol get? I don't think the decrease intelligence in this country is a good thing. For those that complain about foreign professors and TAs in another thread, think for a minute instead why there is such a shortage in American Born PHDs. We as a country are spoiled and need to be spoon fed scape goats if things aren't great, which is what Glenn Beck does well. I don't think that's a good thing.

his show is like a train wreck - terrible but sometimes you can't look away. he has deplorable standards of honesty, is generally incoherent, and appears to be a moron, but that **** is INTENSE, with all the non-stop ranting and crying. one minute he's shouting about bringing DDT back (even though it's not gone!) and the next minute he's crying and talking about being a former alcoholic and how much loves america. it's like he's going through some sort of perpetual catharsis, or (more likely, i guess?) pretending to be. it's just ****ing CRAZY to watch. i think i can understand how really ignorant people could find him persuasive.

it was so funny when jon stewart pretended to be beck.

So since the "media" is "liberal" to hardcore Republicans, and the media in general is driven by advertising dollars, it must mean America in general is "liberal" and Republicans are really far right correct?

You actually believe that people believing the narrative that Beck pushes is a good thing?

But quality and truth should make you popular(more viewers), right?

Of course the media is more than just cable news.

As most people around here are probably aware, the circulation of newspapers (largely liberal) has fallen off substantially, and a number of newspapers have shut their doors over the last few years. To be fair, a good portion of their decline is directly related to the rise of the internet and changing patterns of daily information consumption.

Talk radio is largely conservative, and the ratings of the most popular hosts in terms of daily listeners surpasses that of cable news.

And as far as cable and broadcast news (and analysis) goes, most outlets are largely liberal, but the one conservative leaning channel, Fox News, completely dominates the ratings, as shown below:

Cable News Ratings for Wednesday, February 10, 2010

    P2+ Prime Time
    FNC – 3,130,000 viewers
    CNN – 730,000 viewers
    MSNBC –863,000 viewers
    CNBC – 238,000 viewers
    HLN –708,000 viewers

So, it appears that the influence of conservative leaning media has increased, continues to trend upwards, and is currently looking pretty strong. The influence of liberal media, on the other hand, is decreasing, continues to trend lower, and is looking weaker every day.

Feel free to interpret that however you will.
