Screw Taco Hell! I was eating a chicken quesadilla(a very soft food) and all of a sudden i go and take another bite and it felt like I was wile coyote biting on a metal plate and my teeth shattering like in the cartoons. I was driving too and I slammed on the breaks out of instinct, luckily no one was behind me. I couldnt find what it was that was in my food but i chipped a small amount of my middle bottom tooth(the right one). A small amount on the right corner of the tooth is missing, it's really jagged and sharp now too.

I got a few questions to ask:
Anyone know what I should do?
Is it worth checking out at a dentist since its small?
    Can it get infected?

I chipped a molar not too long ago and the entire side of my tooth shattered. I had to get a crown. I have a few minor chips that my dentist says are fine and can't really do anything except give me a crown which I don't really need. So, depending on how bad it is, you might be able to get away with nothing. Or you may need to get a cap or a crown. Go see a dentist and find out what your options are.

If it is a major piece of the tooth, drop it into some milk and keep it there until a dentist can look at it.

If it is small and not painful that probably means it did not reach the pulp but it could have reached the dentin. Dentin is the layer of your tooth under the enamel. It has some microscopic tubes running through it to the pulp so your risks of tooth decay and infection will increase. A lot of the time when the dentin is exposed though pain is felt.

I would visit a dentist just to play it safe. If it has not reached the dentin or pulp and the only reason you need to get it fixed is for cosmetic purposes then that is totally up to you.

theres no part of the tooth to milk down, since it was so small. and i kinda have this tingly feeling in my tooth so its not painful, im sure the feeling will go away in a couple of days. Its a very small piece missing so probably no crowns or anything. Im probably gonna go get it checked out to play it safe, just wanted to know if it is possible for it to get infected somehow and how i can prevent that.

    yeah go see a dentist.

Not to switch topics, but has anybody kept their wisdom teeth and had no problems? Mine are still inside my gums and doesn't seem to bother me, but the last time I visited a dentist he was contemplating to remove them. Good thing he changed his mind, I heard those removals are super painful after the surgery.

I have my wisdom teeth and have no intention of getting rid of them. As long as you can floss back there, you won't have any problems. Your dentist just wanted more money.

I had my top wisdom teeth taken out at 19. I had my bottom taken out last year at age 27. They were pushing my teeth in and affecting my bite (the way my lower and upper teeth fit together).

I had ear surgery and eye surgery this past year. They gave me hydorcodone (Vicodin) for both but I really didn't need it. I NEEDED it for the wisdom teeth removal. The aftermath of that hurt so much more than the others did.

Because 1 million dollars makes one seem more serious. A 100 thousand dollars, the Taco Bell executives will just offer you some free meal coupons in exchange.

Depends. They can become impacted, causing cysts. They can also push your teeth around, if your jaw is nto big enough.

The vast majority of people have them removed because there is not enough room for them, so when they come in, they jack up the rest of your teeth. You should at least get your own situation evaluated. My parents spent big bucks on my braces so they werent about to let those teeth screw up my mouth. There is quite a bit of bleeding for a day or 2 after the surgery, but just keep ice on your face, take the pain meds, and keep the stitches washed out and you'll be good to go. Of course, some people's faces swell up like a chipmunk....

Perhaps a little bit of filing would take the edge off, and be all that's needed if it only a tiny part broken off.
