Folks, you have not truly paid dues until you've done time on campus at the University of Houston. This place is hell. As if it weren't bad enough the powers that be see fit to channel funds that could be used for, oh, say, hiring teachers that give a damn or scholarships for students who want more out of the university than a safer place to deal crack, into our slap-ass football team (if you could call it that), they can't keep anything working longer than a f'n week -- in the Honors dorms no less No, I'm not talking about ethernet (about the only thing that works here -- but only half the time) -- I'm talking about water. Today marks the fourth time this semester the water pressure has bottomed out. The fourth. I don't care if it wasn't UH's fault this time. They haven't kept anything working this semester...as long as they get our money... God I hate this school.... ------------------ It doesn't matter if I have a signature!
Stone Cold, Which building are you in in the Quad? I started out in Law (irony can be pretty ironic sometimes) but spent most of my 2 years living in Bates. Consider yourself lucky! ------------------
SamCassell -- Been in Law since Freshman year ('98) and have been plotting my escape ever since ------------------ It doesn't matter if I have a signature! [This message has been edited by Stone Cold Hakeem (edited October 31, 2000).]
Aw man! Unless you're one of those national merits and have no choice but to live in the dorms, GET OUT! I stayed there 2 years and then got an apartment by my Junior year. Do you mean you've got ethernet in your room? When I went there I had to go to OB or the library/Honors College to check my email. ------------------
How 'bout this: At Trinity University (where I go to school), which has A LOT more money than UH (per student anyways), the air conditioning in the dorms were turned off because Physical Plant (maintenance) ran over budget. Basically, at a place where you pay $22,000 a year to go that has an enormous endowment has the students air conditioning shut off. How's that for asinine? Lord Tree ------------------ I am Jack's raging message.
Thank God I go to UT . Of course, you couldn't pay me to live in their dorms either. ------------------ "I know how hard it is to put food on your family." George W. Bush
SamCassell -- Well, next year I'm transferring to UPitt (God willing), so there's a light at the end of the tunnel...If I survive. And yes, we now have ethernet in our rooms! (Doesn't mean it always works...) Lord Tree -- Turned off the air conditioning -- in Texas? Aren't there laws against that? Hehe, we've had the ole air conditioning units go down once or twice (a week), not fun. Gr8-1 -- Speaking of schools I've been meaning to burn down... ------------------ It doesn't matter if I have a signature!
When I was in college, we didn't even have email. And classes were uphill both ways! (Okay, I made that last part up). I didn't even make it an entire year in the dorms at Texas Tech. And from the sound of it, my dorm experience wasn't nearly as bad as you guys. ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
Hey StonecoldHakeem there was one good thing about water being turned off today - my classes were cancelled Were u there like a month ago when the electricity went out? ------------------ (no)Fun Police: -To point out teams or individuals that have managed to reach the pinnacle of SUCKINESS!!!!!! This weeks award goes to my freakin Cowboys who have failed to win back to back games in God knows how long.
Why Stone Cold ? Why ? BTW, you looked a little rusty against rikishi. ------------------ "I know how hard it is to put food on your family." George W. Bush
I had it the worst. At RIT the men outnumbered the women like 15 to 1. Our capmus architecture was bought from a school in Arizona ( where they like wind tunnels) and was placed in Rochester, NY. I froze my ass off walking between buildings each mourning. Add to that the fact that we had a 1/2 mile walk from the Dorms to the Capmus. Brrrrr! Our school was made of brick. Our school bought out all the neighboring bars. Our Fraternities were all on-campus. There were no Sororities. Our School Colors were brown and Orange. Our logo was a square. Doesn't get any better than that. The edcuation was top notch despite all of it. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
Woo hoo! PSJ - Didn't you love Central NY? Did you ever eat at Nick Tahou's? I went to Syracuse ... Our dorms had no air conditioning. There were 180 steps from my dorm to the Quad each day ... I came back from one Spring break to 43 inches of snowfall, none of which was plowed by the time I had to go to my 8:30. Every mall in CNY had a carousel in it. Our mascot was a big smiling orange named "Otto." Sigh. I'm sorry about your situation Stone Cold Hakeem. You will probably love the northeast! ------------------ Brought to you by the letter M.
I've been there. I used to live in Syracuse for any number of years. I went to highschool there and I worked at the SUNY HSC (Upstate Hospital) doing research. The sun never shines in that place. Never! Rain and snow all the time. Syracuse is a great party school. That's about all I know about the University (other than the dome of course). The campus was nice, but the city itself was kinda ugly. The mall you are talking about (carousel) is going to triple in size and become the largest in the U.S. Nobody will ever go there, but they want it to be the biggest for some reason. I lived just outside the mall in Liverpool (Heids). Now I'm in Washington D.C. Syracuse Basketball kicks but. Syracuse football has been strong for some time now. The mascot is so dorky. Espn used him a lot in their commercials. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
PSJ - Syracuse is an ugly city, but the college was great fun! (And not bad in academics either.) I only vaguely remember Heids, but I cannot believe what you are saying about Carousel mall. What a weird place to the put America's biggest mall. I was a senior when Syracuse made it to the championships ... what a blast that was even if they did end up losing. ------------------ Brought to you by the letter M.
