I know that hindsight is 20/20 and Battier has been great and it wasnt his fault that we couldnt get out of the 1st round but wasnt the whole point of getting him was to win now? If we are still in the semi rebuilding phase to contend and need 3 more years, then we were better off keeping Gay.

    thoughts?

I think the Battier/Gay trade was ok. I see Battier as our current version of Otis Thorpe. He won't finish a game for us but he will perform consistently, night in and night out, to keep us in games.

Also his age being similar to Yao and Tmac is a plus. When this core fades, they will fade together and we will rebuild. It was all the other draft picks, minus Yao and maybe Micheal Dickerson, that was wasted.

Battier is good stopper, it's what our team needed and a good hustle player.

I was one of the people who intensely hated the trade, but it was necessary. Gay wouldn't have been often, because JVG does not really know how to develop rookie, give them the kind of pt they need to learn the game, and his learning curve might be a bit off here. I think the trade will work out the best for both teams. Plus, he would've been competing with Mac, Bonzi, and Snyder for shots.

so everything probably happen for the best.

We weren't going to draft Rudy Gay regardless of the trade for Battier, so don't worry about it. If you have to b****, don't b**** about the trade, b**** about the Rockets draft ability.

The Rockets should have kept the pick. They won't be getting that high of a pick any time soon. Battier would have been great if we had enough good players to "glue".

let's hope memphis doesn't get the first pick.. cause even though they were bottom dwellers this year.. I can't imagine them with Oden/Gay/Gasol/Warrick/Atkins/Miller.. etc.

This division is gonna be even harder to win next year I imagine.

No kidding, when people start complain about how we didn't get Gay, it just shows how ignorant they are in regards to the situation. Gay was the Grizzz pick, we just picked it for them as part of the deal.

As big a Battier fan as I am, it is likely that Gay in 5 years will be better than Battier in 5 years. That will not make me regret that the trade was made in the least. Because Battier is better right now than Gay will be in 5 years.

I know Gay wasnt the Rockets pick but this image of him in a Rockets hat still leaves me wondering sometimes. His development would've been much further along learning from Tmac.

the real comparison is Thabo Sefolosha vs. Shane. Thabo is who the rockets where going to pick if they had not made the trade.

if the rockets had any common sense or me as gm the team i would have made is allen iverson/thabo/tmac/milsap/yao

it was rumored 76'ers were interested in hayes, head, howard, sura for iverson and vun stupid said no cuz he wanted no knuckleheads...then 76'ers turned to minnesota and they said no ...but yes, the team could easily be iverson/thabo/tmac/milsap/yao

now you have to take 2-4 years to stock up a legit pg,and legit pf and legit sg (sorry battier doesnt cut it and is a waste)

I hope it DOES bite the Rockets in the ass, since I put my pet project/personal favorite players ahead of the team.

They said they would have passed on him otherwise.

We DID WIN this year. We were the 5th best team in the league. We had a 50 win season. Yea we didn't get past the first round but that DOES NOT MEAN we are in a rebuilding phase.

rebuilding with battier? you rebuild with rookies. yao and tmac don't need battier to make the playoffs and exit the first round.

What? I said we aren't rebuilding. Without Battier we would not have had home court advantage in the first round. Don't let your feelings over the playoffs trivialize the teams best regular season record in 10 years.

It's the playoffs that matter the most but you put yourself in the best position to succeed in the playoffs by how you do in the regular season.

they lost in the playoffs. I know that's what matters. I have no idea what you mean about feelings. you are the one arguing in circles, you argue that they have one of the best regular season teams in years and then you say the playoffs matter most. they lost, there's no argument. yao and mcgrady don't need battier to make the playoffs, but they could have used another guy who could create a shot in the playoffs.

They definitely needed Battier to get the sixth seed and not get swept by the Suns or Spurs.
