We have comcast cable Internet at our home but the speed has been utterly terrible for the past few months. I can only get 3 Kbps download when I run an Internet speedtest. This pisses me off because they say they have speeds up to 20kbps on their stupid commercials. Is there something wrong or am I just unlucky?
I had the same problem. I was paying for 8mpbs connection and the fastest I could download was 80kbps which sucked because before comcast I would download at an average at 800kpbs. So I tried to get them to fix but their customer service is bull**** so I just gave them the finger and switched to windstream. Now I have a 5mpbs connection and pay 1/2 the price and download at 750kpbs. Comcast sucks and they will charge you $75 for a service call if they determine that the reason your internet is slow is because of inside the house (your modem) Screw them save yourself the trouble and switch to another company.
oh neat, a comcast sucks thread. It sure does. i switched out modems, and it was still slow, so i called them up, and they did something on their end, and it started working.
Mines not that great either, with Suddenlink up in Nacogdoches. Supposed to be at 8mb. Oh well. Edit: Did a test with the Dallas server, better results.
Yes, there's a good possibility it is your modem. Unfortunately the walk in places might not give you a new one as opposed to a used one. Best bet is to wait till it's real crappy and call them. They'll try and test it from their end and if the latency is high enough they'll send someone out with a brand new one. Also, don't call angry. It'll get you nowhere.
I had a problem when I first moved in. I swapped out modems etc. got a new one from them. Still had the slow problem. So I called Techhelp again and they remotely reset my modem, and bingo problem solved.
anybody getting really crappy comcast internet speed right now? i'm getting speeds of 1.59 Mb/s. Ughh!
I live in Houston and its weird that I get lower speed with a server from Houston than one from austin
my latest test: and i pay $40 also. damn, how the hell are you getting that kind of speed. i don't think i've ever had anything above 12 Mb/s.
I had the same problem. Gave them a call a few weeks ago and they came out and checked the cable/connection. They determined that my modem was too old and they switched it out free of charge. Its been perfect since. I'd try to get them to upgrade your modem.
Residential Cable speeds are largely dependent upon how many other people are using the service at the time. So, if you're rushing home at 4:30-7pm and testing, you're going to get worse results than if you test it at 6-7am.
