For MLS money, I think we got a pretty good deal. Although I was expecting Ariza to shoulder the heavier offensive load better, I am not disappointed for what we got. Aside from his offensive flaws he is playing pretty good defense overall. There are some fans here who wants to get rid of him for his inability to dribble or create, but I expect his efficiency will improve dramatically once we get another capable shooting guard and get Yao back next year. He will play off the ball well and be a glue guy like Battier. So as for now, I will just accept him for who he is and believe that he will be great complementary player in the future.
My worry is that they are creating a monster by giving him the green light to shoot any time he's semi-open. If they are not giving him the green light, then then the coaching staff is not doing a good job keeping him in check. I don't know, maybe Adelman/Morey still see potential in him to be an offensive-option player as opposed to a role player, but I certainly have seen enough to opine that he will never be an offensive threat. At this point I believe they should start molding him into a solid role player, which I agree that he could EXCEL at, especially with his length and athleticism paired with his defensive instincts. Teach him to play smarter team defense, pick his shots better, make better passes, move off the ball, etc. Don't try to force him to become something he isn't...it is counter-productive. I'll accept Ariza for who he is, when he accepts who he is.
amen. just let him play. we are too quick to judge people after a limited amount of time. until we've walked a mile in another man's shoes, lets just see what happens. I know this board feels like they need a new whipping boy. but honestly, our team is still performing better than most people expected. We are not trying to tank, we are just trying to grow. im ok with ariza for what he is. once he learns his true role, he will settle down. our team is far from completing our identity. so lets not bash ariza too much for trying to figure out his.
Once Ariza stops trying to be what he isn't (that time will come eventually, if not this year then next), he'll do things he's supposed to do better.
without ariza, we probably lose that game last night. without ariza, we probably win that game last night in regulation. my head hurts.
This sounds like a twelve step program .... I feel ya. The deal is Ariza will look fine when he is the third and fourth option. Playing his role .....great defense, rhythm shooter....Trevor's being asked by the Rockets to do more than ever before ....by far.For MLE money we got a bargain with upside.....Rebounds...Assists..Steals..All around player who has already proved he fits into a title team. Hey, when we pick up our go to 2/3, then those J's will drop at a higher clip and Trevor will have gotten to work on his game.
I think most fans know he'll be more useful as a complementary player, but can't help be frustrated at how inefficient he is right now. But I agree, once he accepts a complimentary role (and stop b****ing at Battier or Brooks on the court) he can be the perfect glue guy. And lets hope his offensive efficiency DOES improve, for the sake of this season and the next...
To ACCEPT Ariza for who he is IS to accept an error of judgment and to LIMIT HIS MINUTES AND FGAs imho It's the people who DO NOT accept Ariza for he is who are complacent about how he's performing and perfectly complacent about letting this continue. theSAGE
Not sure if that will happen since supposedly, one of the reasons he chose to come to the Rockets was to have more opportunity to grow his offensive game and not just remain a spot up shooter who waits for the superstars to create his opportunities on offense. That said, I hope he does develop into a better offensive player. However, the growing pains are tough to watch as a fan sometimes.
MLE player guys, don't expect anything great! He'll be a very very good player when we get everything ready next year.
trevor i think is in the toughest place a player can be he just got 9 mil 2 leave the lakeshow & is coming in to a new team new position and has a 2nd round phenom behind him ( some say steal of the draft)& a beloved vet(shane) in front at his natural position & 2 of his team mates are having breakout seasons maybe he is not the bargain we expected but we need 2 give him more time i think he is getting more comfortable & if he turns it on in the playoffs it will all be forgotten "people who use the net as a bully pulpit will be its downfall"
If ariza don't insist on his shameful offensive talent, and focus more on the defensive job,ok,i would be more easy to accept him. remember never overate urself
The best Ariza excuse is the "when we get more talent and is Yao back, Ariza will be much better" which basically translates to "once we pay him to sit on the bench he won't hurt us so much"
