Recently I was robbed and my collection of over 200 CDs were stolen. I was left with but a few. Which inspires my question, if you were stuck on a desert island with only one, what music CD would you want it to be. And ONLY ONE dammit! I would choose Beck's mutations. Something about that CD hyponotized me. I reserve the right to change my mind. ------------------ I have a special purpose.
Ck, First, sorry about your loss. Getting robbed is a bummer man. But boy! This is a hard question. I guess I would have to bring along (although it's a three CD collection) Frank Zappa's "Shutup and Play yer Guitar". Good choice on the Beck though. I love all his albums myself! His new one is just mind blowing! ------------------
It's a toss-up between something that would help me dance softly on the beautiful sands: Carlinos Brown--"alfagamabetizado" (main artist on Bahia Black, the Herbie Hancock/Wayne Shorter work done in Brazil) And one that would help me pound the sands with sweaty dances. Michael Franti/Spearhead "Home" When pressed to choose, I always take the sweaty dances first.
This is a tough one. I can't decide between Led Zep 1 and The Wall. If I could only bring one CD of the Wall, I'd have to go with Zep. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
Are we talking 1 actual disk or are we talking about one title? If box sets are allowed I would without a doubt go with "Songs of Freedom", the Bob Marley set. If box sets are not allowed but double disks are then I would go with "Sign 'O the Times" by Prince. If only one disk is allowed then I would go with Bob Marley's "Catch a Fire". ------------------ RocketFuel is taking the summer off!
heypartner: You like Michael Franti? Do you know his Disposable Heroes of Hiphopricy work? He also did work with William S. Burroughs. Anyway, good poet. Crisco, you are lame. Beck is no good. Seriously, though. I would have to go with: Sarah Vaughan: The Essential Collection. because she would help me through the day but then there is.. John Coltrane: Blue Train (actually, any of his work). because the Trane is the master! ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000
rimmy, (You don't mind me borrowing CKs nickname for you.) Yes, Michael Franti is awesome. I have everything by him. His "rap" poetry is fantastic. I saw him at Rockefellers. Do you know he is 6'8"? In my opinion, that kind of open mic athleticism is what makes music so great. It is what makes you stand up in your seat in disbelief at what you just heard.
I would select the AOL startup CD to get on the internet to download MP3 music. Does that count? I have only bought one CD in the past 2 years... ------------------ What do you expect from someone who beats up his fiancee?
That is like my nightmare! Only one CD! Wow! I guess I'd take Abbey Road by the Beatles. Whenever I got sad or depressed, I could just listen to the last line of the big medely: "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." Then I would think of when Chris Farley interviewed Paul McCartney on SNL and asked him about that line, "Um...is that true?" Just like now, I would crack up laughing and not feel so bad. It doesn't hurt that the rest of the record is amazing either. If I could, I'd take my music gear and record my own. Then, I'd never be bored. ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!" pardner: I did not know he was 6'8". So how good is the new stuff? I have never gotten around to picking a Spearhead cd up. I saw him do some rapid-fire poetry on pbs once, it was wonderful. Quit messing with the Dr! Jeff: Good choice. Beatles come after jazz for me. ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000
I think I am up to ... 3. Just couldn't resist after mentioning how tall he is. Plus, he has a song called "Dream Team", about MLK, Malcom X, DEB deBois, etc. the Dream Team. "Home" is a fantastic CD, rimmy. I like them all. He's a tremendous talent with both lyrics and voice. What was the PBS show?
If I could only choose from the CDs I already own then my choices would be like this: If boxed sets are allowed, I'd choose either Jethro Tull's "25th Anniversary Boxed Set" or Aerosmith's "Box of Fire". It's nearly impossible for me to choose between my two favorite bands.... I guess if I was just about to jump off the boat and swim for shore, I'd just close my eyes and grab one. I'd be happy with either one. If 2-CD sets are allowed I'd choose Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild Retrospective". Mainly, because it's the only decent 2-CD set I own. Plus, if you have ever heard it, you'd know what I'm talking about. There are SOOooooo many good songs on there it ain't even funny. Now the toughest one of all. If only ONE SINGLE CD was allowed, what would I choose? Dude, I can't choose just one!! Hmmmmm.... Okay I have narrowed it down to: 1. Aerosmith's "Get Your Wings" 2. Jethro Tull's "This Was" 3. Guns n Roses "Appetite for Destruction" I think I'd have to go with Guns n Roses and "Appetite for Destruction". I love every single song on that CD.
Bob, Excellent choice my man, I think I would have to pick the same. -Turbo ------------------ Hendrix Rules!
