his quote after YAO schooled shaq on that spin-move layup in the 4th quarter was priceless!!!

"We have just witnessed a turning point in HISTORY!!!!"

that has got to be the greatest thing walton has ever said!! i also liked it when he talked about hakeem schooling shaq in the 95 finals. other than that, everything he said was stupid. but props to him for making me happy!

So you guys hate Walton but then love him when he speaks positive of someone you like.

Walton is the man. He has always praised Dream and Yao. He loves the big men in the paint.

Walton made me blush with all his compliments towards the team and I'm not even apart of the team. He pretty much called the team a contender while making the side commentator eat his words about the Rockets being unable to beat good teams. Made me really happy to hear such praise on national tv.

I liked the quote where he said something like foreign players are affraid to get tuff with americans because they feel like they might get in trouble, and be sent back home. That was freaking hallarious.

heres an example of why he sucks a lot
in the first quarter: "kelvin cato has got to have the WORST hands of any NBA player right now"

few minutes later: "kato with the alley-oop from francis!!! what HANDS!!!! what a finish!!!"

he says too much stupid stuff like that

turning point in history? i beg to differ. It is not at all uncommon for a Houston center to school Shaq. In fact, I think Cato even stood up to Shaq for significant parts of the game. the big aristotle has been plato'ed by Cato and Yao tonight.

    Not another Walton thread!

It was a fun call, though. The kind of stupid spout that makes you forgive all the ridiculous negative stuff he says about the Rockets. :p

The great commentators are usually really hated or really loved. Howard Cossell was the same way.

Do you not realize that he's being sarcastic with his superlatives? If not, then I think it's you who is stupid, not Bill Walton.

It sounded like he was being sarcastic with that second comment. Walton contradicts himself a lot during broadcasts. I don't really mind though, since I think that's part of what makes him so fun to listen to.

I listen to Walton just to hear "Throw it down!"

The greatest line in NBA commentating since, "He's a flamethrower!"

Exactly. Walton's whole schtick is to make fun of those announcers who are more serious and always riding players jocks. Walton says dumb stuff purposely. At least when he is announcing instead of just tuning out completely you pay attention somewhat, whether you like it or hate it.

I don't give a damn what anybody says, Walton knows the center position better than anyone who has been at the mike. Call me old school but I remember the Walton Gang at UCLA and how he decimated Memphis State for the NCAA title. He made the pass from the pivot, as well as rebounding and the outlet pass, on a team of role players (the '76-77 Blazers) into a work of art and Portland's first championship. He's one of the few contemporary commentators that also recognizes Hakeem AND Yao for their skills beyond bowling people over, killer slams, and the obligatory primal scream for the baseline cameras. There have been very few completely equipped big men over the last 30 years.
Sorry. He may come off like a smart ass and and his TV show sucked, but Walton knows what he's talking about. And has given the Rockets' best big men their props.

Cmon guys. The old man's son is playing for the Lakers. What do you expect. Bill a is good man.

Ya'll like making bad comments here when Rockets game go bad but when you hear it from others you feel bad??? Pls don't. He said it right. Rockets can't manage to solve their problems since Steve took over the wheel.

Steve SURPRISINGLY played unselfishly last night. That's the kind of game we want from him. If he can do this consistently, we're good.
