Sun should be blew up without ref's help in the fourth quarter. Ym and others dare not defense them in the last 7 minutes. The refs are trying to make every game a close game. I hate that.
If the refs swallow the whistles in the playoffs, this hurts the Suns who will suffer in a physical game without the calls.....
The only thing that I found truly, truly appalling was when they took back Barry's 3. That was preposterous. It was a 3. Replays actually confirmed it. And it wasn't like "oh, that's too close to call." There was a good 3 inches between the line and his closest foot. Stupid officials. Regarding the other calls: the Suns got some, but so do wel. One of Yao's was awfully soft, but they gave him a couple of "maybes." Of course, Stoudamire got about 4 "maybes" before they finally whistled him for his 4th...but his 6th was pretty soft.
Yeah, taking back that three was rediculous. Why would they do such a thing? Did they see a replay and come to that conclusion? I don't understand why they'd call it one way to start, and then change it. They must have had a different camera angle than the good one ESPN showed.....
that call could have come back to bite us. I dont think i have ever seen the refs go back and change a call like that before.
For a lot of reasons, first and foremost, there is no sun in New York, light just bends around that place.
I've seen calls changed before, but not when the video evidence actually supported the original call. I like the use of replay - it adds accuracy to a sport where calls have to be made very quickly about actions that happen very rapidly. But when you make the right call, and the evidence supports it...why change it? I half-wonder if it wasn't punishment for something else we did.
I don't think they are allowed to go back and look at the replay on a three.... However, if no referee saw where Barry was, they are not allowed to award three points. They may have gotten together and decided that they weren't sure. In that case, it automatically becomes a two.
I didnt see the play, so inform me. Did a ref raise his hand when Barry released the shot? I thought the scorekeeper does not award a 3 unless a ref signals when the ball is released. If a 3 was awarded, doesn't that imply that a ref saw the play and raised his 3 fingers? Or did the scorekeeper give barry a 3 when no ref raised his hand? Interesting situation, though i doubt anyone remembers what exactly happened as far as hand-raising.
I liked the way they compounded a bad call on Yao, but giving a "makeup call" on Amare... causing both to go to the bench I could hear the ESPN execs screaming - "we did not pay $50 million to televise Steven Hunter go against Scott Padgett"
check the video clips (at 2:29 ino the clip)....you see the play from a bunch of different angles. there was a ref within 10 feet of him...and he had his hand raised.
A couple of plays that I can remember: 1. Yao extended his arms trying to get a good position, an offensive call was called. If ref called that a foul, all those pushing, hacking Yao from behind should be also called. Refs may realize it was a bad call, then immediately on the other end whistled Stoudamare one, I guess, for a makeup call. 2. Yao stands STILL on defense, Nash ran into him and fell to the ground, a foul called on Yao. 3. Deke blocked Stoudamare on his dunk attempt, and was called a foul. On the replay, clearly Stoutamare uses his off-arm pushing Deke away. It should be a no-call or even offensive call. 4. Deke went for a dunk, Stoutamare jumped over Deke's back blocked the shot. Even Stoutamare got all ball, but over somebody's back mostly led a foul call. In addition, the ball was clearly over the cylinder when Stoutamare made the block, so a goal-tending shoudl be called.
Tough calls for both teams. Replay showed that Amare's fifth foul wasn't. He had a clean block on Tmac. The sixth foul was really soft, just bodied up on Tmac on the perimiter.
Nothing Yao hasn't been called for 50 times this year, regardless of opponent or situation. About Barry's 3, it's totally bogus for the closest ref to call a 3, only to be overruled by some other ref who was farther away. Last time I saw that happen was in some Lakers/Spurs game a couple of years ago.
