I know that ESPN is bad regarding Yao but this show is 10X worse. I officially boycotted the show after watching them go off on another Yao sucks tangent when Mobley was on via satalite last week. But after Ming had his breakout game against the Lakers I couldn't wait to tune into the show again to see all of them go back on what they've been saying and give Yao some props. Well, they had Payton on tonight and they asked him what his impression of Yao was. All they seemed to do was try and goad him into saying negative things about him. They mentioned he had 20 points but they seemed more interested in showing tape of Ming falling on his ass against Marbury over and over again then laffing about it. Salley is the biggest b**** of the group. I can't wait until they take this mockery of a sports show off the air.
Everyone is hatin on Yao...it'll be funny watching them kiss up once he wins Rookie of the Year. People judge others way too fast, i mean, isn't he the only pick outta the top 10 on a winning team?
I watch this show once in a while, and they don't like Yao for some reason. I think they are starting to realize that Yao can play and won't admit it. Salley is the biggest jerk. Of all the guys, he plays basketball and should know it takes time to develop a game in the NBA. Naysayers like this idiot will eventually all kiss Yao's ass.
Excellent point. I've been saying all along that "If you're going to take someone's opinion to heart, take the player's opinion." They've been there and they understand. Damn Salley takes that theory and tosses it out the window. I don't EVER want to see jackasses like Salley getting back on the bandwagon. But you know he will. Telling everyone that he really believed in him all along. Barkley realizes his mistakes Thursday.
It's pretty interesting really. When you look around at the desire to see the kid fail, it seems to be a mix of: 1. The hype. 2. His size - making fun of gawkish, big men is almost a pastime 3. Where he's from - let's face it, a lot of guys are sensitive to the "European players are catching up to the NBA" particularly after Team USA got its ass kicked. The combination has been rough. What irritates me is that he is really a good kid. It would be one thing if he was some egomaniac, but he's just a quiet, humble kid. What is really funny is that I'd LOVE to pull out some old clips of Salley. Talk about a scrub!
And now here is a guy who grew up in a completely different culture than our throw-it-down-in-our-face culture, who has so many differences, and we're expecting him to come out and completely change the NBA in two weeks. Those expectations are unfair to Yao Ming and are a sad reflection on us as people and as a culture." -Bill Walton I still can't believe this came out of Walton's mouth. Of all the ex-players/commentators, I thought Walton would be a Ming basher. He's one of Yao's biggest supporter.
Why would Walton be a Ming basher? He is a respectable man who gives good opinions. He has a sense of humor that most people don't understand which causes a lot of people to misjudge Walton.
Yeah, it's pretty bizarre with all the Yao bashing. The kid has pressure more than we can fathom. Not only does he have Rocket fan expectations to live it up to, he's got the expectations of 1 billion Chinese watching as well. It's pretty sad though and a real poor reflection on our American culture at least in part. Being just a bit Freudish, it speaks volumes to me about the real issue of just how insecure these people are. Thankfully we've also got folks speaking up for Yao as well.
Bill walton is one of the biggest Yao booster. He was singing Yao tune long before Yao came to NBA. It's big man's love for each other. Bill can also relate to Yao very well since he has a big man son also trying to make it to the NBA. And Bill is perticularly impressed by Yao Ming's personality.
It doesn't matter how all these sports shows are trying to show Yao sucks. It only matters that Yao is helping the rockets win games. In fact, the more these idiots hate on Yao, the more the rest of the NBA will underestimate him, and that will give Yao an edge as he will surprise opponents who are unprepared to play him.
John Salley doesn't think Yao will get any better. Somebody needs to tell Salley that most young players do develop...even though John Salley never did.
Hey Ref, what is a lawyer doing awake at this time of the night... I would have thought this was a time we could be free from your terror
Sadly...I am, shall we say...between professional engagements. Bad economy and all. I was laid off in April and am still looking. Mrs Ref on the other hand is practicing law and I should probably get to sleep before she wakes up and sees me up all night posting on a basketball BBS.
they just mad coz of their prediction that mike dunlevy would be rookie of the year is as off as Charles barkley was bout YAO hahahahaah
You guys are on the ball, that show is a joke. They're just like the rest of the media, they're just hoping Ming fails for whatever reason. Same thing happened to Kwame Brown last year. I think the media jumped on Brown and Ming because they know that because of these guy's background it was going to take them longer to develop so they get a chance to be classless asses and make fun of them. Brown is a high schooler, Ming from another country, both play a tough position up front against physical monsters, so it stands to reason they struggle early in their careers. And the media takes advantage and tries to be funny.
John Sally is a simple minded follower! He only goes where the crowd goes. He only agrees with the bully. He never had an opinion of his own, an he will never go out on a limb because he doesn't believe in anything. That's why he said that he'd take Shaq over Wilt, Russell and Jordan last night. He knows that if he says anything bad about the Lakers, he'll lose special access to the "exclusive Lakers club." He's a Lakers ass kisser if I ever saw one. Sally HATE's Yao because of jealousy. He wants Yao to fail so he'll have someone listen to him talk about how "great he was with the Pistons, Bulls, and Lakers" and how bad Yao is. Notice a trend here? Notice how Sally always went to teams that had already built-up their teams only to ride along (leach) so he could get a ring, and then brag about it. Did you catch Sally's comment about Yao? He asked Payton, "Gary you were the number two pick and we didn't know who you were, but you let us know later (made your name). But, Yao is the first pick. Why do we have the wait for 3-4 years for the 1st pick to make his name?" See, what he is saying is a double standard. Yao is the 1st pick, thus must be the BEST PLAYER NOW. But, what if Chicago picked first and got Jay Williams (because of need) and Yao was 2nd. What then? Would Yao be allowed to fail his first year because he was the 2nd pick? Hello! Yao is the same person as the 1st pick as he is the 2nd pick. Yao could have gone 1 through 5. But, just because we picked him at number 1. He's supposed to be NUMBER ONE NOW! Double standard! Sally is punk! P.S. Cujo. You missunderstood Bill Walton. He's been pro-Yao Ming for along time! He was defending Yao.
Payton said pretty much what Marbury and Iverson said... ***Yao has a lot of presure on him, has skils, but it will take time for him to get used to the pace of the NBA game. Give him time.***
http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/RocketsSonics_Postgame_Quotes-57593-34.html Gary Payton on the Rockets: "Houston is going to be a good team and they will get it together. Yao has a lot of ability and he has to keep working hard and he will be alright."
