I am doubly blessed to live in Houston and to have a man hole cover in the corner of my front yard. The roaches in the front yard are driving me night. Every night it is like there is a big roach barbeque going on. They run back and forth across the drive way and I hate it. I have tried some of that preventative stuff but it doens't seem to work that well. Raid works but you have to get it on the roaches and it goes away in a day. Help me please.
Guineas, if you live in a rural area. If not try this. It will kill every bug in your yard in about a week but only use it if you do not like bugs because it will even kill good ones.
maybe u should extinguish them in an ashtray instead of leaving them around. Possession of mar1juana is illegal ya know.
You're a dork. Roaches are probably my greatest fear, besides needles. One time one scurried accross my leg and I thought I would die. Throw shoes.
I just killed a huge roach this morning that I saw crawling across my carpet. Just whacked him with a shoe. Bye bye
Good call. I would personally show up each night with a lawn chair and watch the show if you introduced guinea fowl on the front lawn and watched them go at it with the roaches.
What do you have against roaches? Have they ever done something to you? I still have some Dursban left over from my stash when I stocked up ~6-7 years ago. All you would need to do is spray a circle of it around your manhole every now and then and the problem would be solved. Since they have also sinced banned Diasinon, I don't even know what people are supposed to use today.
I can't stand roaches either. I'd rather wake up and have spiders crawling on me than see roaches in my house. For the most part, they stay outside, but I did have one jump on my shoulder from the doorway in my garage once. The shriek I put out made my sound like the biggest puss in the world.
Get a good exterminator. I've got a great one and have been using him since I bought my house 5 years ago. The only roaches I've ever seen inside my house have been dead ones, the stuff he uses doesn't smell, and I've never had to empty out my cabinets for the exterminator or anything like that. I find maybe one dead one every other night for a couple of weeks after each treatment. Quarterly service price is based on the size of the house. Mine costs $50. PM me if you want his name and number.
I'd rather get in a fight with a bear then be attacked by roaches...they are sneaky and quick; they dash and dart, and for some reason, I think they want to crawl into me. Completely irrational I know. So give me the bear. At least you know where he is.
i also have an extreme fear of roaches. i especially hate the ones that fly. i hate to say fly, because what they really do is flap their nasty little wings as fast as they can they crash into something or fall. Roaches seem like the only bug to not serve a single purpose, aside from that they arent smart at all. Ive been seeing more spiders in my house, which is a good thing cuz they control the roaches. When i was younger i used to shoot them with a little daisy bb gun i had, and that was only becuz i hated getting close to them. My aim was on point though, i could split one in half sitting high on the wall from across the room. BANG!
Man, I was looking at buying a house with a manhole in the front yard near the curb. While it was an eye sore, I never thought about it being the exit of a roach motel like that. I'm glad I didn't buy that house. Thanks for re-inforcing that I made the right decision and sorry about your roach problems. I know someone else that hates cockroaches. Maybe you can take this guy's approach:
i suppose so, but how effective would that be. roaches are quite resilient and treating the surface of a manhole wouldn't do much good since it's basically where they make their homes and breed.
I hate roaches! It seems those big waterbugs have been coming out with the rain lately. I see them on my porch, but a couple of them managed to get into the house. I won't even go near them. I scream like a little girl and make my wife kill them.
There is virtually no way to "exterminate" roaches from a manhole that I'm aware of. I used to work for a water company and occassionally there would be sewer blockages that we'd need to clear. This would necessitate opening up a manhole and lowering our equipment (or, God forbid, ourselves). If you have a fear of roaches... don't EVER open a manhole. The inside of the manhole tube that leads down to the storm sewer was INVARIABLY completely covered by cockroaches. I mean COMPLETELY. Millions of roaches. Manholes are one of roaches' preferred hideouts. Since I'm pretty sure it's illegal to pour poison into the city's sewage lines, I don't know how you'd ever get rid of them. I guess your best bet would be to sprinkle poison around the manhole in your yard, but as long as you live there you're going to have roaches. If it makes you feel any better, those roaches are a great food source for a lot of the animals that DON'T suck, like birds, lizards and small grass snakes. As long as you've got such a plentiful food source in your yard, you'll always have an interesting menagerie of animals coming to visit.
If this is true, I'd put my house up on the market. I can't do roaches. There is little on this earth that disgusts me more than roaches.
Believe me, it's true. Plus, whenever there's a flood or a sewer blockage, manholes tend to- ahem- overflow. Manholes really suck.
