I play basketball at a 24 hr fitness that has a lot of playground legend wannabes at it. Often times I will come out of the low post to set a pick for the guard. 95% of the time, playground legend either just stands there totally ignoring the fact that I am setting the pick, or goes the opposite way of the pick. #@&)$*(&@)# I'm just trying to give our offense some minor element of movement instead of iso dribble dribble shoot or iso dribble dribble teardrop and the $#%@ just totally ignores what I am trying to do. Does this happen to you guys?
always, it pissed me off at first when I moved from europe, down there there is bacically no one on one
Yeah when I used to play half court hoops....People acted dumbfounded when I tried to set a pick. And on a 5 man team there were at least 2 players who if they touched the ball would NOT PASS...as soon as the ball touched thier hands they were driving or shooting. I don't have much game....but there were a couple other guys on the team who were effective they could have passed to.
I see your frustration, yaoluv, but what's worse is that most people don't know how to pick. They shuffle their feet, or follow the defender while picking, and I'll start saying "F*ck, man, stop moving your pick...! That's 'moving pick', a violation! " if I am a defender... Nonetheless, if I ever play basketball in your team, I will expect you to not only pick for me, but to be ready to pick strongly or fake the pick so that you could get the ball and either shoot from outside or roll to the basket. Same thing in MEXICO. What's worse is they have "foul and it counts" foul-calling... p*sses me off.
yeah happened to me all the time too, even drove the coach nuts too, dunno why some people are so stupid.
Until I played pickup with cf.net fans, I never ever played pick up anywhere where you'd set a pick for the PG, unless they called it or moved your way first. Even when I played with cf.net...Boki's brother played with us once and wanted nothing to do with you setting a pick for him. Running out to set the pick is bush league. This does not mean there is no movement. Just set picks for guys without the ball. Don't set a pick for your PG unless he asks for it. duh get over it. pickup is pickup. Yes, I agree the arc of 3pt shooters is annoying, but a bunch of lame pnr's is too.
agreed. but usually I think a moving pick is usually the guy with the balls fault, If they make their move as soon as the pick arrives and use it correctly, there is no need for a moving pick. and I always either roll or pop after I set the pick, the pick and roll or pick and pop is basically an undefeatable tactic at the 24 hr fitness skill level, but these idiots would rather iso rafer alston tear drop it than win
I love it when there's a big guy on my team. I just order him to set screens for me all day so I can run around him and be wide open 99% of the time. Most of the times my defender just runs right into the screen and knocks himself flat on the ground.
eh, whatever. I set picks all the time. If they want to use it, they will, if they don't, they can tell me they don't want them, I don't much care. I get more annoyed with people who don't use my picks off the ball, usually because they are too lazy or stupid.
Ive played pickup games were the teams somehow wind up running flex or pass/screen away like it was common sense. Depends on where you are at...
As a person who usually plays PG in pickup games, I hate when people try to set picks that I don't ask for. That's probably why they don't use them.
I play PG, and I LOVE picks......love em...... I still play about 2 or 3 times a week at the YMCA, and last year during the summer there were some young college kids....aged about 19-22 and they were running and gunning up and down the court.... We got our team together (no one under 40) and played them........We back cut them and set screens and rolls all game and DESTROYED them...they were yelling and screaming at each other and all we were doing was fundamental PnR basketball. Man, that was one fun day...... DD
I'm going to, legally, stand in the way of the player who is trying to guard you. What? You don't want me to do that? Could you never play basketball again? That would help a lot of people out.
every PG I ever played with understands this. People who think they are coaches will stupidly try to tell you sumpin else. just ignore it and keep playing point for us guys who understand.
you either don't know what flex is or your defenders do not know how to destroy a bullsh!t playground flex.
I hardly set picks for people because I'm kind of (actually really) skinny. So when I do set a pick, then they know it's important and it's probably in their best interest to take it. I also don't like playing with people who doesn't know that picks aren't just made for guys who have the ball. My friends and I like to set picks for eachother when a ball is being thrown in (from the sideline or mid court).. and it sucks when we have someone who's totally clueless as to what we're doing. On the flip side, I kind of don't like it when I have the ball and someone foolishly sets a pick for me when I already have a move in mind. It's like he's telling me what to do. OR OR OR... I hate when people don't know how to roll after setting a pick. They just stand there looking all stupid.
I never said it was the triangle offense or anything! I just find it funny when I am in a pickup game and its a strapped together flex or motion that we somehow wind up running.
