I'm just curious what some other people out there think of magazines like Maxim/Stuff/Blender etc...A while back I got the free subscription from a thread posted on this bbs. When I was in college I read Maxim quite often, and always thought it had good information and hot chicks. Now they still have hot chicks, but trying to read anything in those magazines is like torture to me. They try to make a cute little joke out of EVERY SINGLE COMMENT! I mean do people really think this stuff is funny? It is the same schtick on every single page of every single issue. It's like the writers are trying to be really clever, but they come off looking like total jackasses in my opinion. I don't know if I'm just getting a little older, or if these magazines just used to be a lot better. I think I'm probably just growing out of being entertained by these types of magazines (i'm 25), but I wanted to see what other thought of them.
dont think ive pickd up a magazine since Clutch BBS... Last I remember was at the doctors office 2 months ago, last i ordered was slam, long time ago
I got Maxim a little while ago becuase i used to read my friends all the time and enjoyed the articles but lately they are just crap i just look at the pictures and the occasional article about electronics and that's it. They have really dropped off on the quality of stuff the write about. I am glad i got the maxim with a subscription of ESPN the magazine so it wasn't a total waste.
Yah I have waited like 2 months for my next Maxim to come in once i moved. I just subscribed to help a friend raise money. They are so rii-donk-ulously slow on restarting your issue if you move and tell them ahead of time.
i grew out of it, it really is the guy's cosmo and after you read three, they are all pretty much rehashed stuff. plus, seeing hot-airbrushed, but not naked women makes me really depressed.
I liked Maxim back in Highschool.... Now I really don't care for it. but awhile back someone posted a link to free magazines, and I am getting Free Maxim till August 2006. It makes for good bathroom material, I have a pile of them next to the toilet incase someone wants to read something while making a pile.
I think it was free biz mag or something like that. It was a LONG thread. Had Forbes, Stuff, Maxim, and a bunch of others for free. I didn't belive it until a bunch of posters said they recieved their magazines. So I reluctantly tried it. And I get Maxim every month...and have for the last year. I checked online and the subscription in my name is till 2006. I can't remember who was the starter of that thread. Hopefully they will read this and post the links in here for you.
That deal is probably long gone. They don't do non-scamming, high quality, free deals all that often. I still haven't received my free USB memory stick from Dell.
I got Maxim and Stuff free from a thread here on the bbs. I can't wait for the subscription to end. I sent the past 6 months of both over to Iraq in a box when a soldier at macrumors.com asked people for extra mac (and other magazines).
i thought i was the only one... got a free subscription here too....i used to wait for my new maxim but i hardly even look at the new ones when they come out.
I get it for free...when I get it, I thumb through it, look at all the chicks, and wind up tossing it in the garbage within 30 minutes.
Those are like Playboy lite. If you want a magazine for the read and it has to do with men's stuff, Men's Health and Cargo are far superior. Cargo is actually an excellent magazine for guy stuff. And for music, Blender isn't bad, but for an "adult music magazine," it is still basically lame compared to the biggies like Rolling Stone and Spin. But, my favorite music mag BY FAR is Tracks. I've discovered more good artists and records out of that thing in the past 3 months than I've found on my own in two years.
i got 2 free years of maxim, FHM, and stuff from some promotion. i'm pretty sure it was off this BBS. anyways..... i can pretty much gaurantee that once i graduate college, i'll have little interest in any of those magazines. they're just a little too juvenile. i'll be moving onward and upward to GQ and Esquire.... and obviously Playboy.
Yeah, I can attest to Men's Health. My neighbors get it, and it's much more interesting than my free FHM that I get. For music, I get Rolling Stone & Relix. Rolling Stone's okay, but most of the stuff they cover is a little too mainstream for me. Relix, on the other hand, is right up my alley.
Men's Health is like Golf Digest. Every issue is the same. I mean, how many ways can you possibly do crunches for sexier abs? It always bugged me the way the models all looked the same on MH. I could never remember if I had already bought the issue or not. The same with Golf Digest, there aren't that many cures for slicing.
