Are you talking about neighborhood homeowners associations?

I'm lucky in that my neighborhood has a Civic Club instead of a homeowners association, and participation is not mandatory, so I've never paid it.

I live in a townhome, so it's $170/month. Then, I have to pay $425/yr just to live in the community. On top of that, I just wrote a freakin' $1200 check to the ISD. I'm single with no kids!! It hurt to write that check.

Lil bastards, they better enjoy their edumacation.

    mine is $660 too

HOAs serve a purpose, but i hate how some use them as a stepping stone to power and/or political aspirations

Ours is $800+, but it's a gated community so we have to cover street repair + garbage pickup. The people who run it really try to look after the community though, IMO.

0 thanks to town zoning laws in CT.

Unfortunately my property taxes are $8,000/year but at least it's tax deductible whereas homeowner association fees are not.

Do you live in Western Estates? You better pay up quick, you don't want to have Bobby Dooley on your bad side. :D

Mine came to $350. The only thing they've ever done for me is write me a nasty letter telling me to mow my lawn when I first moved in.

One of the reasons I moved to the heights. [said from behind the 5 foot iron fence that protects my property (another reason I moved to the Heights)]

You could always truck your own garbage away, do away with the community pool, tennis courts, basketball court, etc. & not have a say in whether your neighbor has his car up on blocks in the front yard, has decorated his fence with Miller Lite cans, or has rooster fights in the driveway.

Then you'd have the Heights - minus the used car lots every 50 feet...

I'm guessing these are homeowners association fees. I think mine's around $375 or $475 or something.

I got the same letter once. I was on vacation and hadn't done the yard in a week and a half. There are a lot more important things they should worry about.

And yes, I was referring to HOA fees.

My HOA fees are $240 per year. The city utility boards takes care of trash pickup as part of out water/electricity utility bill. We don't have a community pool, tennis courts, basketball courts...nothing like that.

We have a halloween party once a year, and it is in a vacant lot.

I have no Home Owner's Association. The city takes my trash away, and they tell my neighbor when to cut his grass. I guess if we had an HOA, they'd tell him every couple of weeks instead of every couple of months.

$700.00- we have a gym, basketball court, lap pool, splash pad for the kids, soccer field and an onsite elementary school. Not too bad..
