I heard on the radio yesterday...that they were asking Casserly what he thought about Bush. CC said he could not comment on underclassmen...but he COULD say this...that the team really liked Dominick Davis and they are more important places to improve than running back. I believe CC will be back and he will NOT pick Bush if they have a chance at him. I think it stinks...Bush has been mentioned as the best possible player ever to enter the draft. YES, Davis is good and all, but when the whole country is cliaming that Bush is so special that you can't pass him up..you do it. The guy makes play after play, a human highlight film. He can play RB, slot Receiver with Davis in the backfield, pass block, return punts...a lot!!! If they do indeed get the #1 pick and do not choose Bush, then I am washing my hands of the Texans, seriously. Bush is the ONLY logical pick for CC because he can't lose. I don't trust CC making trades and drafting other pathetic players like Babin.
Like you said, he cannot comment on Bush, so what is he suppose to say? I guess that's why you aren't the GM. While Bush is no doubt a very special player, you have to keep your options open and can't make a pick just because other people say so. Bush is an unbelievable player, but he isn't much of a pass blocker like you said. Bush is a finesse back and is a bit undersized to be taking on 300lb DEs and linebackers. I agree that I really don't trust Casserly drafting players beyond the 1st round, but saying he can't lose by picking Bush isn't true. There are no guarantees in the draft, none.
Like Casserly said he cannot comment on underclassmen until they declare. What did he so that was so wrong? Its a fact that the Texans need to improve in positions other than running back. If Casserly gets a good deal like the Manning/Brees, Vick/Tomlinson or Williams/an entire draft deal then he may take it. I'm one of the minority on this BBS that is not completely enamored with Reggie Bush. The team has so many needs that trading down and acquiring more picks could help more than one player whose skills may or may not translate to the pro level. Reggie Bush has great skills but with all due respect is also a product of the media hype machine, saying things like "the best player to ever enter the draft" is a bold statement. I think he's good, but the team has so many holes and running back isn't one of them. If the Texans are doing something you don't like and you are willing to give up being a fan after four years then I say good riddance, fans like you aren't needed. Part of being a fan is sticking with your team through losing and winning seasons.
If they get the #1 pick and trade Bush for 4 picks, you have to jump all over it. If they select Bush, that will be ok too.
i agree. i don't think they can go wrong there. it is POSSIBLE that the value offered for Bush will exceed his actual on-field value. PARTICULARLY FOR A TEAM THAT HAS WEAKNESSES ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!
Even if Reggie does go elsewhere and succeeeds, it's no guarantee that he would have done so in these circumstances in Houston. Let's not start bashing Casserly about something he hasn't even done yet....we've got plenty of bashfodder from all the horrid moves he HAS made.
Just keep Reggie if we luck into the top pick this year... (doubt that happens cause of the easy schedule we have the next 4 games. But we can all hope that something productive comes out of this season in getting the #1 instead of falling down to 5 or whatever with a few wins) Casserly does not have a very good track record for trading draft picks (free agent trades & any acquisitions in general) for fair value (besides getting the 3rd rounder from Dallas for Drew Henson whom he got in the 6th round the year before). Don't mess around with our picks Charley if you are still around in 06'...
I am surprised that this has not been brought up but, what can we get for Davis? Lets say we do get Bush down here in Bush country, can we get a 1st round pick for Davis... if not, what can we get for him? Bush and 1st round pick > Bush and 2nd round pick > Bush and Davis > Bush and 3rd round pick > Davis + 2 1st round picks
Even if Casserly has no plans to take Bush, he's an idiot if he really implied we wouldn't have interest in him. Talk about screwing yourself out of bargaining position.
There's no way you could get a first for Davis, we might be able to get a second round pick. We need to keep in mind that if we trade Davis this offseason, we have to eat 3-4 million of his signing bonus.
You're not trading a franchise player for a depth. You trading him for another franchise player (Ferguson, Hawk) plus another two very high draft picks. It worked pretty well when the Chargers traded out of the Vick pick, didn't it?
I think he used the question to compliment one of his players. If he's around (I pray to God he's not) by the draft, he's going to be in a unique position and probably doesn't want to tip his hand just yet. I dislike Casserly as our GM, but this is much ado about nothing.
What did Buffalo get for Henry last year? I think it was a 2nd or a 3rd? Pretty much what I think we can start the negotiations at.
Passing up Bush is like teh Rockets passing up Kareem Abdul Jabar because they have Yao. No, its worse than that actually. Point is, Bush can change this team much more than AJ Hawk or Ferguson. Bush is a franchise player being compared to the greatest RBs in NFL history. You have to understand the wins he can bring us, this kid can take us to the playoffs next year. Someone else would help but look at our record. There really isnt anyone who can single handedly turn this team around significantly. Other than Reggie Bush. He is also a great WR, dont forget that. Him and AJ will be crazy. An O-Line will help, but Carr wont have much to work on anyways. Yall are underating Bush.
No matter how good Ferguson or AJ Hawk are, they are only building blocks. They can't change a game by themselves. I would much rather have a game breaker than an OL and a LB, even if they are 10 year players. Bush is only a junior. Barry Sanders as a junior was nowhere near as advanced. Im not saying he will be Barry Sanders but Bush has amazing quickness, shiftiness, and incredible speed to the outside. If the Texans pass on him and he goes gangbusters, Im sure we'll all be comforted to know that we went from terrible to mediocre with 2 good starters.
