so i went into bestbuy the other day and bought a couple of 10 in subs, a box, an amp, the cables and what not. scheduled an appointment for this tues at 5:30. i had a dentist appointment at 3:30, got my first cavity of my life but that's another issue, went and dropped of my car at 4:30 since i was in the neighborhood.

i waited till 5:30, my sister came and picked me up, and then headed home. they said the installation would be finished by 9. 9pm...no call. i waited till 9:30 cause i was palying halo and then called the store.

stoner picks up and informs me that they overbooked and were busy and didnt get around to it. i asked why he didnt call and he said he did around 9 but he didnt get through. hmmmm...dont think so. said he had just cleaned shop and was heading home.

why call me at 9? why not call me at 6:30-7 when you realize you dont have enough time to get it finished at 9 cause you havnt even started! why only call me once? do they not realize i might need my car to drive to work in the morning? why not try calling me twice just to make sure?

so i inform stoner that im heading down now to pick up my car. got my car now and im pissed. was really looking forward to having my car ready. cant go tomorrow casue i got a softball game and my sis is going out of town and wont be back till sunday. dont know anyone else that lives within 30 minutes of me and has the time to sit around my house for 3 hours waiting to drive me back at 9 at night.

so im gonna call best buy tomorrow and ask to speak to the manager. ill inform him of the situation and say ill let them make it up to me by refunding me the cost of installation and giving me 10% discount on my purchase. maybe i can convince my mom to take me out there thursday night if i bribe her with dinner. they might be full this week who knows. if he doesnt then ill tell him im coming in for a full refund. about $670 total. and ill never shop at bestbuy again.

what is wrong with people. im so pissed right now. its late and i need to go to sleep. end rant

    serenity now! serenity now!

"Uhh yeah... and you'll probably also need this 100 dollar "new computer kit" Its got a 6000 joules Surge Protector... and uhhhhh... you'll need it with your new PC... because the one you have I guarantee will melt your motherboard! and uhhh, you need a warranty."

Best Buy would be so much better if the people working their were robots. I swear I want to kick these pimple faced biotches in the stomach when they try to tell me If I don't buy an upgraded fan my CPU will overheat and blow up. Take your sales pitch to a gullible grandma, and just give me the ****ing computer.

Yeah.. and their porno DVD selection reeks.

The only crap from bestbuy that I buy are CDs and maybe batteries if I need them. Sometimes I buy wires and input plugs and all that crap, and that's about it. Anything over 25 dollars, I don't touch at bestbuy, because I don't want to deal with "stoner A" and "stoner B"

I bought a digital camera from them and the "salesman" told me I needed the extended warrenty because if the heads went out, it would be hundreds of dollars to fix...digital cameras don't have heads.

I bought a sidewinder there a couple of days ago. The girl checking me out was like "We offer this 2 year warranty for $4. If the buttons jam or the cable comes loose you can get a gift card for the full value including tax." I was like "No, thanks" and she continued. "If the controller breaks or the little light on top goes off and never comes back on you can get it replaced." I told her I would probably have bought a new one anyway by the time the light goes off and doesn't come back on. I started thinking about how they train these people. Do they just say hey just start talking out of your ass and people will be convinced to buy the warranty. Even if you make no sense and don't have a clue what you are talking about. Just look at the picture on the box and make up problems that could happen and try to scare them into the warranty. Pathetic!

Its the Wal-Mart-ification of Western Civilization...

People comprimise service and knowledgable workers for low-price and large selection. Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA, Barnes and Noble, the list goes on and on. Welcome to the big corporate world determining how and what you will buy.

The alternative would be to shop at Mom and Pop stores, or maybe a store like Conn's where the store is not that big. Of course you may play a little more at one of these one of a kind stores.

Solution... Find your own stoner friend who knows how to install systems. I know everybody has at least that one friend that can hook up stereos, or get you a fake ID, or get you the "hookups" on whatever you need.

This is why Best Buy doesn't sell Apple computers anymore.
Apple has its own AppleCare Protection Plan. $150-$350 depending on the type of the computer you get 2 extra years tech support and extended warranty for parts and labor at any Apple Authorized Service Provider.
Here's the thing that screwed over Best Buy, they were NOT an Apple Authorized Service Provider, so if you bought their warranty plan and brought the computer back after the regular one year warranty was up, they had to send it to someone else that could fix it because they weren't allowed to order parts from Apple (the only ones that sell Apple parts). So they would foot the bill, but then what would happen is that another issue would come up and the people would bring it back again, or if the computer was deemed unfixable by the AASP, Best Buy would ahve to give the customer a new computer. But there is ANOTHER catch; when Apple replaces your computer because it is deemed unfixable, they have back stock to replace your G3 350 Mhz with a refurbished G3 350 Mhz. Best Buy did not have back stock, so for your broken 2 year old G3 350 you would get the model they currently had in stock, usually something like a brand new G4 500 Mhz. They stopped selling Apple's after a few years for this reason. He He He. :D

I've actually had no problems with Best Buy's car stereo installations. Very quality work and very prompt. Of course, I didn't have amps and speakers and stuff like that. I guess it depends on which location you're at. The only thing I probably wouldn't buy there is a computer or major appliance...

I disagree. I would say that colleges are the reason you don't find knowledgable people in service and sales jobs anymore.

If you have a brain, most likely you will go to college these days.

In days past, there were crops of halfway intellegent people that didn't go to college, but made excellent employees...now, halfway intellegent people go to college and no longer fill the sales and service spots in these stores.

I would argue, however, that you can still find helpful people in some stores, and I have had good and bad experiences, but I usually give peopel the benefit of the doubt. They are trying to sell that warranty because their boss pushes them to sell the warranty, and they dont' care how many people they piss off as long as 1 out of 10 people are suckers and buy it. Its unearned income...free money.

    "Extended warranty...how can I lose!?!?!"

Other than CD's & little things NEVER buy from Best Buy & if you do NEVER - and I mean NEVER - buy Best Buy's replacement plan!
Best Buy makes their employees push the warranties on you but the kids don't get commission. The catch is that if they don't meet their quota of plans sold, they get ****canned!

Also, even if your machine breaks & you bought the plan, all BB does is send it to the manufacturer to fix! Only if after multiple tries, the machine is still unfixable will they replace it. It's a huge hassle & a huge rip - it has become one of BB's largest sources of revenue. Often, if you want something brought out of the back, they'll lie & tell you they're out of it if they know you're not gonna buy the replacement plan!

Anyway, go to http://www.bestbuysux.org to read the horror stories...

I disagree, because Best Buy was not always this bad as far as customer service goes. I used to love Best Buy. They have always tried to sell you worthless warranties, but that didn't really bother me because all you have to say is no. But it is just recently that I have noticed all the people employed there are total idiots. True Story:

I went with my dad to go buy a network card for his home network. The only one they have is like $25, but with a $20 rebate, which is a drag but all it will take is a little time. We take it up to the front to check out, and she checks us out. When he asks her for the rebate form, she says "there is no rebate on this product" without so much as even looking at it. When we both insist that there is, she eventually decides to go to the back where the product sits and check. Well, from the checkout we can see the aisle where the network card was located. This girl (who was blonde and attractive, which might account for her getting hired because it damn sure wasn't because of anything in her skull) walks back into the computer section, gets to the junction where she should turn left to go to the network cards, and promptly turns RIGHT.

We don't see her for a while and then she comes walking back, never having gotten near the location of the product she was looking for. She then tells us that she looked and there was no rebate on this product. I tell her to wait and go get the price tag on the network card and SHOW her that there is a rebate, but my dad is already too pissed and tells her to screw it and take the card off the receipt (we were buying some other stuff too that she managed to not screw up). Well, money had already changed hands before the rebate discussion came up. In fact, she had given us the receipt for the stuff and the change. So now she needed to give us some money back because we were no longer buying the network card. We had given her a $100 bill and received some change back.

She took the item off the purchase, and then looked up at us and said something like, "Okay, that's $28 dollars." to which my dad had to reply, "Uhh, no, I gave you the money for all this. You owe me money." She lets loose a ditzy laugh and furrows her brow in thought, but instead of figuring out what the difference in price is and just giving us that money, she told us to give her back the change she gave, and she gave us back the $100. We then immediately gave her BACK the $100 and she made change again. My dad and I were dumbfounded.

I tell ya, I had never seen anything like it and I still haven't. It was the single most blatant example of how badly laziness and stupidity have no place in any work environment, and I haven't been back to that Best Buy since then to get anything. Which is unfortunate (", Bill") because I really liked going there as early as 6 months ago. I don't remember there being idiots there and the prices were good. Oh well.

Did anyone else buy the PSP with their cell phone. I did about 3 years ago, and abused the hell out of it. I got a new phone like 4 times, just by saying stuff like "it drops calls" or "I get a bad signal." Best Buy lost so much money on cell phones, that now before replacing them, you have to go to the Sprint store and get a bunch of diagnostics run before they can give a new phone.

If you don't go to stores because somebody is stupid in the store to you once or twice, then you will quickly run out of stores to go to.

All of Best Buy's warranties aren't worthless. I have replaced a $90 cordless phone twice, and the second time got a slight up grade because they didn't carry the model anymore. No hassels either. You have to read the fine print on what's replaceable, and what kind of accidents are cause for replacement, then make your decision.

I worked at Circuit City, and their sales staff is fairly knowlagable. Its a totally different concept from Best Buy, you can't sale video equipment or computers at Circuit City if you don't have the experience.

One thing to be careful of.... if you get a nice stereo "professionally installed" you may not want to leave your home address. I've known two people who had stereos installed by the store where they bought it and in both occasions the stereo was stolen the very next night. Almost as if the thief knew there was a new stereo in their car. In one case, the theif pushed through an apartment complex gate and went straight to my friends car (witness saw this but did nothing about it).

Now, I'm not going to point fingers but I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Or maybe they posted on a BBS that they got a new stereo. ;)
