Did anybody hear congressmen BOOING when Justice Breyer entered the auditorium last night? What the hell is that? Is this some kind of sporting event? Were these people drunk? I can't believe that a congressman would actually BOO somebody, let alone a Supreme Court Justice, on national television. It is so completely ridiculous. Are all Democrats this juvenile? Just flat out crazy.

You do realize that there are invited spectators don't you? I watched the proceedings and I didn't hear any booing. Did I miss them pointing out the Democratic congressmen you are referring to?

What about when the republicans refused to stand and clap during Clinton's 99 union speech? I'd say that is pretty classless too.

Actually, no. That may explain part of it. Who do you suppose invited the hecklers?

The booing was pointed out on the Today Show. It was pretty obvious. Whether they adjusted the volume or not, I can't say.

I think Ted Kennedy invited them. [IMG]

I seriously didn't hear anything resembling booing except for some orchestrated Republican gasp at a mention of big government.

I'll be the first to admit that it's extremely classless to boo a Supreme Court justice, or anyone for that matter in that setting.

(I hope you realize my thread was in jest, even though there are three of us who heard "10 and 20")

    TheFreak,

Weren't you insulting the Supreme Court Justices earlier this summer when you thought they might rule against your republican causes? I know you had a thing or two to say about Florida's State Supreme Court. I know it's not the same as BOOING on television... but you still questioned their ethics.

Regardless, I still don't have class merely because I do the farmer's huck early mornings on the lift chair. I gotta breath dude.

The decision to reverse the Florida Supreme Count and rule the recounts unconsitutional was actually a 7-2 vote. Breyer supposedly voted with the majority. (The opinion was unsigned). Four justices wrote opinions dissenting from at least part of the decision. They were Breyer, Stevens, Ginsburg and (half the Bush appointees) David Souter. But Souter and Breyer apparently agreed that the recount as it was proceeding was unconsitutional. They both (along with Ginsburg and Stevens) thought that statewide recounts should be allowed to continue under a statewide standard (Breyer specifically said so in his opinion, and did say in that opinion that the Florida Supreme Court violated equal protection by not having a statewide standard for what constituted a legal vote).

So if there were people booing at Breyer (and I don't know if there were. I didn't watch), maybe that was why. (Of course, even had he not voted with the majority, it wouldn't have made any difference. There were five who said the deadline was firm).

I guess booing and turning your back on a member of your own party because they are gay during your convention while they are trying to make a speech shows a lot of class too.

And mine wasn't? [IMG] Wait a minute...all of mine are.

Not really. I would say that's worse.

What makes this bad though, IMO, is that it was actual congressmen (unless it was their guests??). A convention is more of a ra-ra event that less dignified people attend.
