I guess Tom Brady will have someone to throw to this coming season.

Sources: Moss trade to Pats has open issues remainingBy Len Pasquarelli
    ESPN.com

The New England Patriots have reached a trade agreement in principle to acquire wide receiver Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders for a fourth-round round choice in Sunday's second day of the NFL draft.

There are still details to be completed, including Moss passing a physical examination by the Patriots' medical staff, but league sources said they expect the deal to be competed. As part of a trade, Moss would restructure and perhaps even extend his current contract, which calls for base salaries of $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in 2008.

Oakland and New England officials conducted on and off negotiations for the last several days. The Raiders, who acquired Moss from Minnesota in 2005, have been shopping the wide receiver much of the offseason.

Moss, 30, has not participated in any of the offseason conditioning sessions conducted by first-year head coach Lane Kiffin and the suspicion is that he would not show up for the start of training camp.

Acquiring the once-explosive Moss would perhaps be the defining moment of an offseason in which New England coach Bill Belichick and personnel chief Scott Pioli have worked to dramatically upgrade the team's receiving corps. New England added former Miami wideout Wes Welker in a trade and signed unrestricted free agents Donte Stallworth (Philadelphia) and Kelley Washington (Cincinnati).

In nine seasons, Moss has 676 receptions for 10,700 yards and 101 touchdowns. He is coming off a 2006 season in which he played in 11 games and registered 42 catches for 553 yards and three touchdowns, career lows in all those categories.

Wow, nobody would give them more than a 4th round pick?

He's on the downside of his career, skips practices, doesn't play hard, and has major attitude problems.

Only on a team close to a championship like New England does it make sense.

And for a team like New England, this is an absolute steal.

Moss will be energized and may actually do something with a great QB and coach both of whom command respect and won't take his BS.

Raiders also got former 1st round pick WR Mike Williams and QB Josh McCown for a 4th round pick.

When we took WR Johnnie Lee Higgins with the final pick of the 3rd round last night, the writing was on the wall.

No way the Raiders could have afforded to finance JaMarcus Russell's contract with Moss and his contract being dead weight.

His time here was unfortunate, we were in extreme rebuilding mode, Davis was stubborn and wouldn't take a 1st round QB, Art Shell and Norv Turner were very big mistakes. It has been 4 years of hell and bad decisions.

It wasn't a good fit and now he's going to go somewhere else, I don't blame him at all.

I think this is the case of what I call 'player pouting.' Guys who are very skilled but don't feel like playing 100% when they aren't in a top team. My Browns had an overall #1 and overall #2 pick on their defensive line. Yes, the team sucked, and I know it's demoralizing. But these guys clearly didn't give a damn about their job and were worthless. The whole d-line gets traded to Denver and suddenly it's one of the best d-lines in the group. In life you always have control in how much effort you put in your job. Especially for a few million a year these guys need to take pride in their own work ethic.

That said, I consider Moss a 'pouter', and in NE it will probably inspire him to start trying again, like you said. Unfortunately 'pouting' works in pro sports.

Everybody says fourth rounder, but Yahoo has fourth rounder and a 2008 first... which would be a huge difference. I'm guessing they're wrong, but who knows?

Haven't heard anything about that, but the trade isn't official yet until Moss passes the physical (in process right now)

Green Bay apparently wouldn't give up a 3rd rounder so it came down to who had the highest 4th round pick, the Patriots got a high 4th rounder from San Fran yesterday and now some chump CB named John Bowie is now known as "the guy who was traded for Randy Moss"

If they can get their secondary patched up, I think they have to be considered one of the favorites to win it all again.

    amazing..

    Moss and Stallworth.

But let's not forget Wes Welker. This guy was pretty underrated in Miami last year imo. Esp. given the QB's he had throwing to him.

Those 3 make a sick group. Add the main holdover in Reche Caldwell who developed a solid rhythm with Brady...and Ben Watson who's still coming into his own.. NE is gonna demolish teams. All they really need is someone to help split time with Maroney just a little so he doesn't get pounded

A past-his-prime Moss is still better than 80% of the receivers in the league. This is like Brady having a bigger and faster Deion Branch.

To those who say Moss is past his prime... You are right. But he ran a sub 4.3 recently. So he can still spread the D

Look what New England did for Mr. bad attitude Corey Dillion.

I can't believe Moss is 30 -- man time freaking flies.

The NFL is way to skewed toward the draft. I mean marshal faulk went for like a second rounder. I think monkeys shooting at dart board would have about the same success as some of these so called experts/ Teams.
