I already have made a bet with my cousin, a rabid Sox fan who lives in Boston. If the Stros and the Sox play each other in the World Series this year, the bet is 20 pounds of Maine Lobster vs. 20 pounds of Texas Barbecue. I'm putting my digestive system on the line for the Stros, baby!!
Already done today (this was the hardest part, so I'm going to put it in here): 1) Got up at 7 a.m. to practice the piano just a little more. I had to learn six songs (for vocal accompaniment) this week - some of them with only a couple of days' notice - and knew I would be required to produce any or all of these this morning between 9-11. I'm already sleep deprived from practicing late last night. It's not usually this bad, but the work comes in bursts. 2) Accompanied the voice lessons. I actually did better than I thought I would. So I haven't been fired yet. 3) Finished and turned in midterm grade report. 4) Went home to pay bills, nice argument with "Ferdinand" , had lunch. 5) Where I am right now - Office Hours. (in other words, bbs time. Hardly ever do the students actually come by.) What I plan to do: 6) We don't have lab today; instead, get together with my research student and go confront our "big boss" together about how the maintenance people haven't set up our instrument yet and we've been doing nothing for two months. 7) Finish the errands I didn't run: pay the power bill and drop off the truck for routine maintenance. Take Ferdinand home and drive off with his car. Or maybe have him leave me on campus - won't matter much at that point. 8) Practice solo piano if it's not 5:00 yet. 9) Dinner. 10) Teach class. 11) It's "Coffeehouse" night here, so attend that. Some of my fellow music people - the choir - are technically supposed to be doing some crazy fundraiser thing. If it's really tonight, and if the rain hasn't discouraged it, I'll see what they're up to. 12) Prep tomorrow's P-Chem class. This takes forever every time. 13) Work out. And I finally thought of something to do with my office hour... make up some individualized midterm grade reports for my 6:00 class. Off to do that...
