Ya'll remember the thread about me asking Ya'll to vote for my band. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48526 Well we won 1347 to 1089 over the next closest band. http://pub.alxnet.com/poll?id=2335243&q=view At least you would have thought we'd won by the results. But we were not offered the contract. That went to the band that finished 2nd. WTF??? They said a lot of our votes weren't valid which 1) I don't really believe and 2)shouldn't have been possible since they logged IP adresses and used other measures to prevent cheating. Just to test, I set up a poll using the same site that they did. I was able to prevent cheating (I tried) using the features of the poll. But with those measures in place, there weren't any other options to see if the votes were valid or not. So I don't see how the votes we got could be invalid. I am really freakin' pissed off right now. We got screwed. I feel just like the Giants.
Sorry to hear about that, that sucks. Seems like you should be able to pursue how they determined invalid votes. Sound like they favored local boys? How 'bout an article in the local paper about the bogus vote?
Well, no. Most of the bands playing are from Cali. Busdrivers are from Florida. Of course, we're from Texas.
EddieGriffin, that really does suck. Too bad you can't complain. That isn't fair! Did you ask them about it or something? Hopefully you can succeed more in the future... Busdrivers are from Florida? Those Californians...
Dude, that does suck!!! I voted for you three times, but each time from a different IP address. Whenever I tried to vote twice from the same IP, it blocked me. No way that a vote is invalid unless they just didn't want you to win. This is total crap!!! Post some link for us to complain to -- we should swamp them with complaints about how we wanted your band, and how you won fair and square!! You ought to go Pete Rose and have YOUR OWN concert right next to the one that 2nd-place band is doing
I'm going to let our manager b**** for awhile and if I'm not satisfied then I'll post the guys e-mail and let the flooding begin.
I would b**** them out, thats complete crap that's some stupid stuff right there, sorry that had to happen to you EG
The Giants did not get screwed. They screwed themselves. They shot themself in the foot. Sucks for you, I heard your stuff on the Texas Buzz last night.
I bet it's because they saw a large proportion of Secret Agent 8's voters were linked directly from CC.net BBS. Still though, that shouldn't matter -- a vote is a vote and it's not open to interpretation whether it is a "legitimate" vote or not.
From experimenting with my "test" poll this is what I understand. There is a 'IP address' and 'cookie' cheat prevention system. Both of these were in place. Nobody could vote twice from the same IP address. Any votes after the first would not be counted. After that, there is no way of knowing where the votes came from or when. You also can't view individual IP addresses for those that voted. This means somebody could have gone to a library and voted from every CPU (we didn't do that, just an example) and there's no way for them to know. My point: There is no way for them to go in and determine which votes are valid and which aren't. There was no way for anyone to vote multiple times from the same internet connection. Thus: This is some major bull.
what a load of crap! did the small print say that the actual winner was the band who came in 2nd or something? sounds like BS to me...
UPDATE Apparantly, we (or somebody supporting us) have been accused of cheating. They think that somebody modified the poll script so that the Busdrivers votes registered for us. Some people e-mailed the organizer and told him that they voted for the Busdrivers but they registered for us instead. This is BS for 3 reasons. 1)How would they know that their votes registered for us. There is no screen that says "You voted for Band X." Once you vote, you're taken to they results screen. That's it. 2)The Busdrivers were still receiving votes. How could this script be diverting votes to us and the Busdrivers still get votes? The Busdrivers were actually gaining on us so how does that work? 3)None of us knows how to hack a website let alone modify a script. This whole thing just isn't plausible to me. On top of that, somebody (apparantly one of the Busdrivers) said that we admited it at a party when one of us was drunk. The only time we were around the Busdrivers was at a show on Jan 3rd. Nobody was drunk. I was there during all conversations between the bands. No such thing was ever said. The organizers basically DQ'd us on hearsay with no physical evidence. I repeat, we got screwed.
If you were able to crack into their servers and edit the voting script, there would be SOME evidence. Without any, their case holds no water. Dude, I would LOVE to rip someone over this . . .
