Went to my first Rockets game in a couple of years tonight. I went early so I could watch shoot around hang out and take in the atmosphere. Anyways, before I went inside the arena, I purchased a Shane Battier jersey from the Rockets shop and then proceeded to walk to my seat which was in the vicinity of the Rockets tunnel. I got as close to the floor as I thought I could and started taking some pics with my iPhone. I was pleased to see several players stop to sign autographs...Shane, Chuck Hayes and Jordan Hill were all great and signed for all the kids (so did Clyde Drexler). Anyways, while he was signing, I got a picture of Shane and stated "Shane, I bought your jersey tonight!" He reached his hand up to fist bump me. Coolio!!!! Also, we were standing right next to where Matt Bullard and Bart Ennis do their show and they were reviewing with their producer the pre-game. When they finished, Bullard walked away and left Bart there. I asked him what he thought of the Terrance Williams trade. He said he was intrigued and looking forward to seeing him play. I asked him if he was playing tonight and he said no he didn't think so. So...another Coolio moment! Anyways...not necessarily much new insight but its my cool Rockets story of the year. ALL those guys went up a notch in my book cause they were all very accomodating to the kids signing autographs and taking pictures with fans when they didn't have to. Just another reason to like this team and organization... (By the way...we go up by 30 points early and cruise to an early win while Shane goes for 17 points 10 Rebounds. Maybe I need to attend more games!)
Cool story... seriously. When Battier is scoring our offense gets much much better, I like the way he is trying to be more envolved.
The Rockets organization is full of classy guys for sure; always nice to hear more about it. I actually ran into Shane on my way out from the Texans game on Monday! He was with like 6 other women (hoping one was his wife lol), and talked us and even posed for a picture! I love Shane and it definitely made that agonizing Texans' loss feel a little bit better.
I think you mean Coolio Story Bro! That is actually a very coolio story. Shane Battier winked at me after I got his autograph at the Season Ticket Holder Holiday party on Sunday.
It's crazy how great our players treat the fans. I was able to make my way to the same spot during pre-game at one of the Rockets/Jazz playoff games in 2007 and managed to get Rafer, Shane, Luther, Chuck and Yao to sign my hat at the same time. It's one of my most prized Rockets possessions.
