Regardless of how you feel about the Tracy Mcgrady situation, you have to respect how he has handled the rest of the team. You do not see to many coaches who actually walk the walk. You don't see to many coaches who actually stand up to superstar players and the few who do usually lose in the long run. This guy was not going to ruin the chemistry on this team. and he figured out if it came down to the situation he's in, the best bullet he has in his gun is having a team that competes, that these fans love, and oh btw, can win a couple of games. with this team being competitive, t mac has no leverage. i'm not hating on tmac, even given how i reacted when they traded my boy francis. tmac has eventually grown on me, i've moved on and i would have liked to see what he could do with these youngsters. but I don't get the people who still say the rockets should have played him for trading purposes or whatever. the only way they should have played him is if he got with the program, and that clearly was not going to happen, and rick adelman was not held hostage by this situation. The guy is freakin awesome
It's all about what happened last year and Adelman has learned from that. I think a lot more happened behind closed doors than we know of involving Tracy, RA and probably Morey / Leslie.
What some people don't realize is that a talent like McGrady is special but a team like this one is more special. The collection of talent, chemistry and lack of egos here is more valuable than a former All Star who may or may not regain his form. Rick realized it and I'm glad he did.
RA makes this team a contender, even with a non-contender squad. Rick brings one great thing: team ball. Rick finds a way to make it work, regardless of the cards dealt. Unlike Phil Jackson, he doesn't come to pre-built teams, he builds them himself...
Nothing has changed in the past 48 hours. It's just that both sides have finally admitted the truth: McGrady was never in the Rockets' plans moving forward. Personally, I think he's finished as a notable player, and the Rockets likely felt the same way. After his lackadaisical season last year (a season which the Rockets had real hopes for), the bridge was burned. Playing McGrady for 7 minutes a night was a concession to the man. Perhaps it was hoped it might increase his trade value, but surely the team knew that his greatest value was as an expiring contract. I still think it's most likely that his deal simply expires here in Houston, with McGrady claiming that he's "hungry" and "ready" and a bunch of other garbage that no one's going to buy. There's no reason for the Rockets to take back a bunch of crap contracts in a trade unless they're getting a superstar in return, and nobody appears willing to trade a superstar for cap relief. If I were TMac, I'd talk to Yao about getting a spot on the Shanghai Sharks. China's probably the only place he could be an all-star again.
Got to agree........ Look at the stats over the last 2 seasons...... With TMac playing .585 winning percentage 97.3 PPG 44.1 FG% 35.3 3pt FG% Without McGrady .625 winning percentage 99.9 ppg 45.5 FG% 37.0 3pt FG% Rick is a GREAT coach for this team...... And you can see why he didn't want Tracy gumming up the works anymore....the team is better without him. DD

tmac had no leverage, despite whatever his ego told him. rick and the FO had all the chips at the table. owned. well played, rockets.
That is not true locoteee....... Yao played the majority of those games last year....which is why I said....the last TWO seasons... DD
Yeah, Tmac isn't going to be flying up and down the court anymore...not consistently enough to be great anyway. He'll probably show some quickness on occasion, but there are too many teams that run in the league...the Jamario Moon incident was just the beginning...it's going to get a lot uglier for him.
Tmac Play too. Where did you get those stats, pls explain. BTW didn't T-Mac have a 22 win streak when Yao went down?
