believe it or not...some people make stupid threads..it happens..doesnt mean we neeed you to bring them to our attention..

what a difference a year makes. first, we were all wondering if Yao can even play, then we were wondering if he can be great and now we know he can be.

I think it's interesting. a lot of people thought caron butler and dunleavy would be stars before Yao. but those of us who had faith in him were right.

You do have to realize that at the time most ppl in the states have never seen him play and are very skepticals of players that tall (Bradley, Manute Bol, and George Muhreasan weren't exactly exciting players) even if he is very skilled.

I was one of those that wanted to draft him because I've heard a lot of good things bout him. Though a trade to get Odom and pick seemed kind of nice too, I felt that Yao was good enough player to get drafted. I also wanted a Shanghai (city I was borned in)player playing in Houston (where I grew up) for the Rox (my favorite team). So I was really pushing for it, but you have to understand why a lot of the other people felt skeptical of getting him. Especially only glimpse of him was a shoot around after jet lag.

TroyBaros, is this guy really having some kind of connection to the Rockets players? Why was he regarded as a troll?

Sure his posts did not make sense. But honestly speaking, how many of you did believe that Yao could be a franchise center his second year in the league, and take Shaq one on one?

Sorry guys, I was not one of them, not even in my wildest dreams.

Obviously, some of our more recent posters aren't familiar with the Troy_Barros phenomenon. And for good reason, since he was banned and later posters wouldn't have an opportunity to read the saga without looking at very old threads.

TB claimed to have connections with players, that was part of his schtick. But, he was just a troll who kept posting insider information that would turn out to be false (to no one's surprise). Then he'd become belligerent when people told him he was full of it. I have to say, it is interesting reading, but there was never any merit to his information.

I preferred the Troy_Barros days to the YOF / SOF phenomenon.
