to anyone on the board, but I found it to be a nice summary of fox's conservative slant (I've only read the first link so far).
Oh come on, you just know that this is a tool used by liberals to show that the media is liberal by trying to show that the media is conservative, when in fact it is 100% liberal. Plus, they talk to black people...so that makes them liberal...right?
You people continue to amaze me. You dismiss any attempt to show that the media is liberal as paranoia or conspiracy theory (BrianKagy started a thread about the topic, and it was written off as such), yet it's perfectly legitimate when someone tries to paint Fox News as "conservative". Incredible.
Don't worry, Freaky's just mad that someone criticized his little crush...Bill O'Reilly, who's he's plagiarised ad nauseum on this board.
I've never plagiarized O'Reilly, didn't even know he was being criticized since I didn't read the article(s). You struck out big time on that one, buddy, go sit down.
So, you're criticizing Achebe and myself for this, yet you haven't even read the articles? Wow, at least we read what Kagy posted before pointing out how terribly stupid they were.
crispee...this onslaught of conservative media has finally worn me down. They were all out to get me, and they finally did. plus, I'm up at 9:30 to go see Jeepers Creepers
TheFreak: My personal and completely unsubstantiated theory: The media is generally, slightly liberal. Most of them are, in my opinion, Clinton-type Democrats. Pro-choice, anti-gun, but probably not big on tons of social programs. To the right of me . Conservatives really don't like this, and I can't blame them. I wouldn't like it if I thought the media was slightly right-of-center. In reaction, you have more far-right conservative talk shows, etc, than you have the equivalent to the left. (More Chris Mathews than Geraldo's... ugh, hate both of them). FoxNews has found a good market by broadcasting more conservative news than NBC, CBS, ABC & co. Frankly, because they're the most conservative of the mainstream news networks. Is this wrong? Well, in the sense that media on all sides should strive for complete objectivity, yes. In the sense that they're more wrong than the left-of-centers... perhaps not. FoxNews isn't as good as the others, imo, possibly because they attract less qualified recruits... or maybe because of personal bias... who knows? Of course, that report shows quite a slant... far more than others. So maybe I'm not biased, and they really are conservative crazies ! In fact, CNN's leading newsman seems to have a conservative slant as well... over a small sample period, of course... in terms of guests. You did read the report, didn't you? Just a theory .
Thanks for your thoughts haven. I didn't need to read the article, as I was not commenting on it. Heck, I'll even concede that the article is 100% correct, and that Fox News is conservative. The point is, when someone tries to post similar evidence of a possible liberal bias to the media, they either get dismissed or ripped to shreds (see: BK's thread about the homeless). Ah, but such is the way in the Hangout Forum, I suppose. That's why it's so fun.
ROTFLMAO. Go sit down? You know, rm95 didn't just paint himself in the "I'm a sillyhead" light. You did. TheFreak's persistent mantra: "I'm criticizing, yet I don't know wtf I'm talking about and I refuse to figure out wtf I'm talking about. That's not my style. I'm a character on the bbs... I play the dumbass". You continue to amaze me TheFreak. You dismiss any opportunity to act objective at all, and you bring in this same trite bull**** you always do. Read the articles. Perhaps you'll notice that Fair doesn't take offense at Fox being conservative. They simply take offense at Fox painting itself as being even slightly objective. If you can call into question any of the points laid out in the articles, have at it. A few of us here actually attempt, in however mild an effort, to be objective. I admit when I'm wrong or if I don't have enough data to form an opinion. Prove the articles wrong, and the rest of us will pitch in on a lollipop. haven, you should check out that site. IMO, unless someone can discount FAIR's data, I happen to agree with them that the mainstream media is pretty damn centrist... @ least the most common right-wing conspiracists targets like CNN, MSNBC, etc. BTW, Chris Matthews rocks. What you consider conservative, I consider simply a well versed centrist. Chris Matthews, is imo, one of the most intelligent broadcasters in the news ( a) if only b/c he tells me stuff I don't want to hear and b) that's rational ).
[edit] lollipop for TheFreak conceding that Fox is conservative. I don't remember the homeless thread. I'm not sure if I took part in it, to be honest. If I remember the thread about 'possible liberal bias' one of the sources concluded the media was liberal b/c pbs didn't air the christian conservative's slant on homosexuals. That's unfortunate, since christian conservatives never have their voices heard. That's also unfortunate b/c the governmental news agency is developed to aggravate the citizens, spread hate, etc.
Only until 10 or so (mtn), then I have to get back to work. LOL I didn't catch this earlier. ROTFLMAO!!!
Achebe -- just wanted to get your insults down here again before you had a chance to edit them. How does it feel to re-read yourself? Having more money than God doesn't give you the right to make personal attacks. I try to say what I need to say without having to resort to hurling insults, but that's just me I guess. I already conceded the article may as well have been 100% accurate. Why do I need to read it? I admitted I didn't read the article purposely. What, did you think I slipped up, and didn't really want you to know I hadn't read it? Great work, detective. Oh, and thanks for the lollipop. Some of us can't afford all the candy in the world, so a free lollipop is welcome. Love, Me
Achebe, you were the first reply in that thread. <A HREF="http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15438">The homeless are back! The homeless are back!</A> Mango
Edit them? Did I misspell something again? Damnit. ??? ??? Every now and then I think that I understand the intuition of republicans. This however, makes no damn sense. Is this one of the famous sympathy "my ***** hurts" calls that some of you guys make on this board whenever your arguments suck? I'm going down, going down, prepare to abort, send out the my ***** hurts distress call. I continually misunderstand your posts then TheFreak. All of your posts sound condescending. "Go sit down", etc. implies that you're prepared to teach rm95 something, at least imo. It has the tone of "little child, be good". If that's not what you intended, what did you mean by such a statement? Are we not playing the rib game? Are you going to play the wounded hero now TheFreak? Oh golly, I love the wounded hero, goooo... on... ugghhgh... wi... with... withwithwithou... outttt.. .m meeeaee speech. It's so conducive to debate. I actually didn't see your thread after haven's. This morning, I read the responses, that ended at haven's... and responded. That's actually why I responded to your exact post in my subsequent post... not the one immediately after your's, but the very next one. Again, not the one immediately after your's but the very next one. Does that make any sense? I hadn't read your post. Noone was actually trying to be a 'detective' though. When someone posts a link to an article, one would suspect that detractors would read the article, before speaking out of their ass on the subject. Oh, another of the he hurt me w/ his words distress calls. It's all so clear to me now. Who cares if the Fox network is or isn't conservative when they claim to be otherwise, once someone cited an article about liberalism in the media that people discredited, and Achebe may or may not have tricked someone into paying him an excessive wage this month. I see the logic, it's all so clear to me now (btw, I'm trying to "reclaim my soul" by going back to school. I would assert that 95% of the people on this board make more money than me so dispense w/ the ingroup/outgroup working class bull****).
Thanks Mango. I suppose that for whatever reason, I didn't follow the rest of that thread. It looks like it was a good one though. BTW, did you find anything contradictory in my response in that thread w/ anything that was written here?
Achebe: I read the article you gave us the link to. The first part of my post was a "personal impression." It appears that, statistically, I might be wrong (referring to the part about Wolf Blitzer). I can't stand Chris Matthews, and I used to like him. It's not that he's conservative across the board, although I certainly believe he leans in that direction... it's that he has "pet issues" on which he won't really let his guests have their own opinions, and ridicules them if they do. He also seems to be a little unctuous to guests with whom he agrees. Come on, even SNL has spoofed that aspect of him! Insofar as Matthews tends to ridicule liberals and suck-up to conservatives more, I dislike him.
TheFreak: "I didn't read the article" Achebe: "Aha! I knew you would slip up sooner or later, Simps...err... Freak!" Apu: "What? What slip up? He admitted it!" Achebe: "Quiet...I need this."
