damn!! how many 1s and 2s do the rockets possibly have to have???

    kirk snyder
    v-span
    rafer alston
    casey jacobson
    john lucas III
    luther head
azubuke (although i consider him more of sf)

yet the rockets dont have that enforcer rebounding power forward the rockets so desperately need. the rockets coulda grabbed reggie evans for cheap. especially since the nuggets barely gave anything in re-signing him. its good that yao pulls down boards, but the rockets need that power forward to back him up, like maurice lucas did bill walton back in their championship run in the 70s. i would rather bring otis thorpe's old ass out of retirement, instead of seeing juwon howard as our starting 4 again.

We've already got a better Reggie Evans in Chuckie Hayes. And once again, rebounding was not our problem last year and it is not going to be a problem this year. We will win the rebounding war 75% of the time or more.

The Nuggets again bidded against themselves, giving the nut-grabber a 5 year contract. The amount is undisclosed, but I'd guess it's somewhere around $3 million per, pricing them out of what the Rockets can pay.

But in any case, I don't want the certifed flopper and nut-grabber known as Reggie Evans on the Rockets.

Our biggest problem last year was the fact that our 2 super stars never had a chance to gel because of injuries, and at a close second was the fact that no one could hit an open jumper.

Battier will help a lot hitting outside jumpers at the foward spot. Jacobson will be like Padget was for us 2 years ago. V-Span should do well cutting through defenses setting up our super stars for easy buckets.

The PF spot is overrated now adays. There are still super star power fowards, but there is a huge decline of talent after that.

You do know that Jacobsen and Azubuike aren't on the team yet, right?

umm...because CD is still the GM???

I do think we really needed help at guard, though. But if J-Ho or Hayes get injured...we are in deep $hit

I'm ok with the Battier/Howard/Hayes line up at the 4, wouldn't mind swapping Howard for Ely or someone, but still it's not bad. What concerns me is we have Snyder/Head/and maybe Azubuike and Jacobson at the 2... :(

at least get cato back. kelvin cato actually played pretty decent in his last year of houston before being traded. besides cato should pay us our money back by signing with us again, for less than the minimum. its pretty phucced up, that chuck hayes is the best power forward on our team.

As someone who was underwhelmed by Alston's performance last year and watched Head's hot shooting dwindle into a brickfest, I think the Rockets have decided to have guard by committee. Unfortunately, most committee members are largely unproven or inexperienced. Somebody in this group has to step up, big time. Otherwise, the Rockets appear to have a rather mediocre back court. Unfortunately, I also have questions about Battier at PF, can that really work? Once they prove they are healthy, I have great confidence in Ming and TMac, but, after that, lots of uncertainty, especially with the guards.

With Howard, Hayes, and Battier playing spot minutes at the 4, we have enough PFs on the team. I expect Novak to fill a Matt Bullard type roll of being a 3 point shooting big man on the team. I still think we might go after another PF, since KVH and Ely are still available, but we'd have to cut someone (possibly Bowen). KVH would be decent for the vet min, since he can hit shots and he's a decent rebounder.

I was about to mention that we have 3 PFs already, but mocity don does bring up backup C issues. If anyone of our BIGs went down, we'd be hurting. Mutumbo cannot play big minutes. Yao cannot play the whole game. Our extra PFs are undersized at PF so they cannot be legit backup centers.

Maybe we would look to free agency if a center went down, but I generally like to prepare for mishaps before they happen, then, nothing happens and all is good.

well 1st, its easier to find a guards than a solid big man.

2nd, although the rockets have 'so many' guards is that a lot of them are still huge question marks and we really dont know how they will do.

i have no problem with them stocking up on guards and swingmen. Its not like all of them necessarily have to be on the team.

I would like to see another PF/C combo player but like i said, its hard to find those guys that would be effective.

It's not like we have a legit guard, who can handle the ball, pass, shoot, drive, and play a little defense. We are not asking for a super star, just a little bit of everything a guard should do. With Batier on board, and Yao continues to improve, I think we still have more problems at 1 & 2, than we do at 4.

backup C is a concern. deke wont be able to handle too many minutes especially in back to back games and such. I think howard can play sparingly. he is still pretty decent on the block, but defensively it could get ugly...but thats what help is for.

is hoping lampe will step it up too optimistic?

i am still shocked frahm isnt on this team. i thought he was a solid player

I am even more shocked that you would want Frahm on this team. What exactly did he do that you liked? Okay so he was better than Brunson, but so what?

Lampe is gone. so hoping he steps it up is not a good thing.
