I don't under JVG's strategy in the 4th quarter of Rox-Wolves game

At the start of the 4th quarter, Rockets was on a run . Yao MIng led the rox to catch up and lead the wolves. Then JVG shocked me with his decision that he benched Yao Ming and let Spoon play on court. Then the wolves caught up and re-led the rockets. JVG had to change Yao back.
I want to ask why JVG did this. In my mind , it was so stupid to make suck a move. I thought Rocket would have won the game.
Blame JVG for this game and we should have won this one.

    Yao has endurance problems!

It's much better to rest him for a couple of minutes and come back fresh.

For yao, playing tired leads to turnovers and bad shots, not to mention you risk injury doing so.

Yao at 60 percent energy level is a mediocre player at best. Why would you want him that way for the REST OF THE GAME.

As much as I don't care for JVG & his NY coaches I think the Rockets just got beat. Of course we were missing T-Mac and that dumb offensive foul call on J. Jax in the final seconds didn't help.

I thought JVG coached this game pretty well, the officiating and KG beat us this time around.

And why did jvg sub lue with boki. Lue was trash tonite. I was at the game and there must have been three times where yao was single covered and yet he did not pass it to yao. Then, garnett was abled to come and double yao.

I wouldn't say that ... I don't think the officiating killed us in this game .. It wasn't THAT bad. The call in the end should not have been made, but even if it wasn't we still would have had to hit the 3 pointer to tie it. SO I wouldn't say they refs were the whole reason the Wolves won.

Personally I prefer to think about the horrid defense we played in the first quarter. How many wide open 3 point shots did we give them? I mean sometimes there was no one within 10 feet of them and they didn't even have to run a play to get the guy open.

The refs played a part in this game and they will do that in the future. The Rox are going to have to learn to play well enough to get beyond bad calls at the end of the game.

I, personally, was encouraged by what I saw out there, and I hope the Rockets can take some positives from the final 3 quarters.

Yao was subbed because he was dead tired. Right before he was subbed, he was huffing and puffing which lead him to have a defensive slip and let Ervin have an easy basket.

I think JVG did fine coaching last night. I think T-Wolves fans had a bigger issue when Flip Saunders had KG and Cassell out and the Rox made a nice run.

It seems a fair assessment that Yao cannot play full 12 minutes effectively without a break. Therefore, it makes sense for JVG to save Yao for the last few minutes.

Personally, I think JVG did an OUTSTANDING job coaching last night, to the point that we had a lead on one of the two or three best teams in the league in the fourth quarter without TMac. He put his team in a position to win and unfortunately, they came up just a bit short.

On the offensive foul, those of us with ReplayTV saw why they called that foul. JJ ran into and shoved Boki's man. It was a seriously moving screen on the guy who was guarding Boki. When the ref saw that we were passing to Boki for the (game tying) three, he had to blow the whistle. If JJ had even slightly pretended to be motionless or if he hadn't shoved, it probably wouldn't have been called, but when you shove a guy like that, you are going to get the foul called.

I was also wondering why Yao was taken out. He was on a streak, and although tired, he was making plays. I thought we should've ridden him longer and see what would happen, and the substitution was a bit premature. Overall, I thought JVG did a great job, and I was happier with this loss than our previous win. Everyone played well and played hard. Garnett just came up big with that last shot, and we just came up a little short.

For those of us without replay TV it was a pretty lame call. But I see where you are coming from.

I hate that the Refs can make a 'bad call' without any reprocution.

If I was Mr Stern I would inforce a rule that a wrong call that changed the out-come of game was made, that there would be a fine following.

Lets not count tonight's game. But over the years in Rockets games and other team's games we have seen HORRIBLE calls without anything being done.

Of course there would have to be league investigation, but I think if the Refs are held responsible for their actions like the players and coaches then the games would be called alot closer and more accuratly.

Thank you for letting me rant!

Maybe its just me but I thinks Yao play fine or even better when hes tired. For some reason he usually play great at later stages(4th qtr) of the game as oppose to the beganning when he's fresh. If he were to have poor performance b/c he was tired, why does he always play great in most of the over time games? Remember the triple OT game where he carried us all the way in Atlanta? How about the OT in Toronto and Portland last year? I think when hes tired, it pushes him to play harder to prove to people that he can overcome it.

The substitution of Yao in the 4th was OK. The strange one was in the 3rd. Yao went out after playing just 3 mins.

I don't know why Deke was not used either. It's not like he had not performed. Spoon was ok but expecting him and MoT or JH to compete on the board with Minn was a little too much!

I didn't see the game. I was in the chat room and I asked this, but what was up with the shot-clock being reset for KG's final shot? Guys said the ball never hit them rim. We were told JVG was having a fit and that call to me was the pivotal one in the game. Did the refs blow it?

I didn't see that replay but I seem to remember that their shot did hit the rim. In the fight for the board, the ball was heading out of bound and Yao caught it and threw it behind his head back in. The ball was caught by a Wolves player.
Someone with a tape of the game can verify it.
