On several news stations Lakers fans were polled on the question of the rape charge against Kobe Bryant. Each and every one talked only about the coming championship and his guilt or innocence was secondary to that. I'm a basketball fan, but IF he is found guilty, then he should go to jail regardless of how well he can play / entertain. These people feel that basketball players, movie stars and other celebs are above the law. Sorry for the rant, but those man on the street interviews just enraged me. There are so many people out there (mostly in California) with the most screwed up set of priorities I've ever heard.
Ya know, someone brought up an interesting point about whether or not Kobe will lose his endorsements if he is convicted. I am wondering if he will lose any endorsements just based on the fact that he is now an admitted adulterer.
Adultery is not rape and it is not against the law. If adultery is illegal, I've been guilty -- in my youth of course if you're reading this at work sweetie. Seriously, though, Codell, watch the donut and not the hole. Endorsements are not important in this issue.
Doesn't seem like all Lakers fans are completely backing him here... never mind... probably best that the Laker BBS links don't work here... (or maybe I'm just another incompetent link poster... )
Very true. However, one doesn't have to committ illegal acts only in order for their parent company to consider whether or not to continue their relationship. And no offense, but lesser people, like us, can get away with adultery because people arent paying us millions to endorse their product. Endorsements are an important issue here due to the fact that millions of people drink Sprite and if they felt morally strong enough about his admitted adultery, might consider not buying the product anymore.
That's my point. This is not an issue about money or basketball -- it's about justice. And, if this were about adultery, it would be none of our business. This is about the accusation of RAPE. I do not presume which of two is telling the truth. A judge and jury will determine that. My concern is where our PRIORITIES lie, as citizens of these United States.
Somebody, can you put this THREAD onto the other we-hate-Kobe thread? I think it's starting another thread here...
Funny, a lot of people said they didn't care if Bill Clinton cheated on his wife and lied under oath as long as he did a good job as president. Sorry, couldn't resist that.
Much as I disliked Clinton, he was not charged with RAPE. Adultery, particularly for a sitting President, is poor judgment but not a prison type of offense. TheFreak -- everybody is concerned with $$$$$ (i.e., endorsements). This is about justice -- not a presumption of innocence or guilt -- and fan priorities.
Maybe it's not an issue to them because they don't believe he did it. it's hard to gauge anything with the description of the interviews you gave. Not that I'm defending La fans, they all suck.
You're right. I should have written down some of the quotes because the people on the street were not used again. It's just that they were closing their eyes to any possibility of a crime so long as they win the championship.
