...because I remember the baaaad years. This is not bad. ZRB, you are missing the fun.

Think for a second what it was like to come off an incredible title run straight through the teeth of the legendary Magic/Jabbar led Lakers in 86 and being left with nothing but griping players, cocaine, lame coaches, a lame owner, and a whining Dream until finally....finally...Rudy and CD take over fully with a hands-off owner and we pull it all together.

Those years between '86 and the 15-0 start were about the most excrutiating basketball experience I could imagine, aside from being a Utah fan....jab!!!!! A proven, young "give me da ball" Akeem and oustanding guards not being about to penetrate the playoffs at all. That is pain. It is easier to have lesser talent like we do now, and play with chemistry, than to have chaos with proven talent.

Count your blessings. ZRB is a spoiled kid that is getting really annoying with all his negativism. Stop starting impatient threads, if you "can't take it anymore."

We have chemistry, and this team loves to play together. Patience pays.

oh...no wonder local radio gets no callers, and the stadium is empty if this "I Still Believe" thread dies out while the "I'm Mad as Hell, and I can't take it anymore..." thread draws all the responses.

So, Crisco, is that pouty enough for you!

Can't a guy get a little frustrated without being insulted? All I want to do is rip into the Rockets viciously. [IMG]
I guess I am a bit spoiled. When I became a fan, the regular season didn't exist to me. It was all about the playoffs. The Rockets making the playoffs was a guarantee. Now, the postseason is in doubt, and it is a little annoying.
Yes I imagine it must have been hell watching them go 14-68. Hopefully I won't have to see that myself.

you are missing the point...14-68 is not hell, and is not what I mentioned. 1987 through 1992 was hell. We really thought we could win every year. We had the best center ever, but very lame coaches and no chemistry.

We have chemistry, and we are fun to watch. Plus, we are the 2nd youngest starting team in the league.

And yes, you can be spanked for incessant negativism when you act like a child who only whines when he doesn't get what he wants.

I'm here as well, HP, and I can take it. I can still remember the day it was announced Lew Lloyd and Mitch Wiggins were kicked off the team for coke. Or the playoff game that Sampson had 0 points and 4 rebounds before fouling out. Akeem's fights, Joe Barry Carrol, Don Chaney....

But I also remember Moses Malone's MVP seasons, Allen Leavell taking a charge call on Barkley, Sleppy Floyd dropping forty on the Lakers...

My point is, ZRB, that being a fan means taking the good with the bad, staying loyal, and not using phrases like "natural born losers", "I can't take it anymore", or "go-to little boy" to describe how I feel about the Rockets.

Sadly, I don't think you understand.

The Rockets still made the playoffs year after year. At least they had their chances. I would like to see the Rockets make the post season, just so that they have a chance. Missing the playoffs means there is no chance. By the way, I don't have to follow your rules on how to be a fan. I can be a fan of the Rockets in any way I choose. You may not agree with me, but that does not make me wrong.

I think the Rockets are on course to make the playoffs NEXT year. Realistically, the west is very deep, and I see the Rockets as the 9th or 10th best team. I hope I'm wrong, but I will root for the Rockets regardless of their record.

I've been a basketball fan longer than I've been a Rocket fan. A game is a game. The joy I felt when we won it all in 94 is on an equal par as the joy I felt when my 6 year old daughter made her first basket in a game two weeks ago. I LOVE THIS GAME! And if I have to endure the Rockets growing pains to reach that summit again, then I will do it gladly because it is BASKETBALL!

I cannot EVER remember a time I wanted to "rip the Rockets viciously".

The Oilers, on the other hand..... [IMG]

ZRB, we underachieved from 87 to 93. I'd rather overachieve like we are now. I guarantee that your propensity for negativism would have killed you in those years of constant underachieving, just like they nearly destroyed Akeem.

It was really painful, then, without CD and Rudy setting us straight. These growing years are fun. Not painful.

I think there were a number of positives about tonight's game against the Nuggets.

    1) Except for the decisive three pointer by Lafrenz, the defensive was excellent. The young players on the team are showing good intensity for the most part.

    2)Steve Francis continues to bloom.

    Problems:

1)Matt Bullard. When he does not hit his shots he is not only a liability but nearly an embarassment to basketball, human motor skills, the hair stylist industry and life, itself. Nearly. His error tonight was mental and that is simply unforgivable if a guy like Bullard is to continue to draw a paycheck.

2)Cuttino Mobley. The worst thing (almost) that could have happened to the Rockets was for him to go off for 41 against Golden State. He jacks up ill-advised shots on a World B. Free level. Rudy needs to stop milking the isolation teat dry (the Rockets certainly have not prospered because of play-calling imagination during the Rudy T era, eh?) and remember the pick-and-roll offense that excelled during the end of last season.

I think the positives and negatives of tonight's game reflect the progress of the Rockets, in general. Despite some problems, I am not passive about this team. I enjoy them, particularly Francis. To paraphrase the great 70's philosopher, David Soul, don't give up on them, baby.

I get frustrated because the team is so good... but unfortunately it's something we're going to have to wait for!

Sometimes I just don't want to wait, I want it all now! But then I can take a deep breath and think "at least we're going to be a competitive team for years to come", thanks to the framework that has been put in place!

Let's stop whinging and get behind the Rockets as the hit this "easy" stretch of games and hopefully get 3-4 games over .500, could be an 8th seed in the playoffs with that!!

Guys, for chrissakes, let´s be realistic about this. We have to be proud of these kids and what they are accomplishing. With so many injuries and no frontcourt to speak of, and a team who is *arguably* at least 2 players away from being a real contender (a 5 and 3, plus a rebounding machine), besides being the second youngest starting line up the league.

what do you guys expect? we are fine so far and being .500 with all of the above considered, is quite an accomplishment.

Rudy is steering the ship just fine, and if we manage to fill the holes listed above, in 2-3 years we are going to be one of the elite teams again.

So get your act together and stop whining or get the heck out of here!

I agree, let's be patient. But tt IS frustrating to see Cat jack up lame shots time after time last night. A smart player will get things done other ways when his shot isn't there. Cat isn't playing smart, and he's leaving himself open to being easily replaced.

About being patient, I guess you just have to live and learn. If you've been a true fan of any team for any amount of time then you know there are ups and downs. That is what makes a championship so sweet for the people who have been following a team through thick and thin. There is no way it can mean as much to a "bandwagoner". I remember the in 93-94 that you could buy a second-round playoff game ticket at the door 30 minutes before showtime! So I know there are very few of the devoted fans out there for such a large city.

I won´t even bother to blow up that statement to pieces, but you´ve just opened yourself to a world of hurt by saying that.

    "easily replaced"

    you gotta love it!

If you think the Rockets are bad
Switch to being a Golden State Fan
Bulls Die Hard Fan [not those bandwagoners]
    Clippers anyone?
    Atlanta?
    CELTICS?

There are a bunch of teams out there that
are simply *ss-horrible. That are not fun
to watch and haven't done anything in a while.

If you cannot see what the Rockets are doing
right. . . look at those other clubs
and see what they are NOT doing wrong.

    heyp,

I remember those years well...it was painful. Every year -- 8th seed, quick exit.

Hakeem would have about 45 points, no one else would score 5, for some unknown reason.

    Behad,

Was it every 20 games or so that Floyd would go off? That was incredible.

    pretty pouty.

The struggle is what makes eventually winning that much sweeter.

As long as the Rockets show continuing signs of improvement ... which they have, then I'm happy.

Yes, and it always seemed to be against the mighty Lakers. I believe he even went for 50 against the Lakers when he was still with Golden State.

A smart player DID get it done! Cat had 19 points and 10 rebounds last night! And if 19 points 10 rebounds, and about 16 to 17 PPG off the bench is easily replaceable then you should be an NBA scout!
