Well, I came out of retirement to coach hs basketball once again. The head basketball coach, a good friend of mine, needed a coach, and I stepped in to help him out. It is a sophomore team, which is exactly the kind of team I was looking to pick up. At this point, we are 5-1 with 1 tournament championship under our belts. That first loss was made up for in the tournament championship game when we beat that same team by 15. I have to say, it's good to be back coaching!
Congrats Falcon.. I hear the Rockets could use you Sounds like fun, hope you win the rest of the season..
What exactly is kinesiology? and how does it help you with coaching? You dont need to get a degree in that to coach i wouldnt think.
Kinesiology is a degree in how to correctly teach physical education and health (yes there is a "science" to it). You don't really have to have a kinese degree to coach in Texas but you do have to be a full time employee of a school district to coach at a public school. So most likely you'll have to have some sort of teaching degree because most schools don't hire custodians to coach varsity football.
I actually do not live in Texas, but I imagine its probably the same everywhere, gotta teach in school district to coach. I myself am thinking of coaching as well, and am in college so thats why I asked. Thanks for the info
I have to say that I am extremley jelous of you. This is my first year in 7 years that I have not been coaching a basketball team. A sad sad time in the FL household. I am playing on a city league and those guys are always asking me what to do, but thats not coaching its just annoying. Good luck, and may the gods of fundamentals bless your team throughout the year.
Im glad to hear that. I had to put down coaching this year because of some minor health issues. BTW, you might want to check out the betterbasketball.com videos. They are great coaching tools LOADED with info and drills, and even better if you can get the school to pay for them!
Thanks for the support guys. You don't need a kines degree to coach, but that was the major I took in college w/ a minor in English with a secondary certification. You do need to be employed by the district in order to coach at that district for public schools. I don't know the policy on TAPPS.
9 games left and my season stands at 12-4. I have a road game tonight. I would love to win out, but I have to take it one game at a time. It pisses me off to no end that all teams in the district(sophomore level) are playing a zone. I love going ahead, pulling up the ball, forcing a man on man coverage and running a clear out backdoor pass to score! PAYBACK BABY!!!
This is my tenth year of coaching youth basketball. I tried to retire last year, but my kids talked me into one more year. So far my boys (14under) are 3-0 and my girls (12under) are 2-1. Unless you have some good shooters, you will never score against my 2-3 zone. I force my posts to stay down low 95% of the time. No one backdoors me!!
LOL, I'm glad to hear that nobody backdoors you ( ), but it seems you've changed your tone a bit on the zone. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=1287149&postcount=61
