I shelled out $120.00 to see the Rockets last game of the season and TWO of their best players didn't play ... I am VERY VERY upset ... I would be a little more understanding if I had not seen the following post ....

On saturday night i went to this underground basketball tourney thing sponsered by steve and cuttino. It was steves "we r one" houston all-star team versus cuttinos philly/nyc all-star team. Cuttinos team was featured on the and1 mixed tapes. It was awsome!! Cuttino and steve were coaches.

........ Mobley must have just developed the "flu" today ....

I thought this was supposed to be fan appreciation weekend .... unless they were all in the hospital there is NO WAY they should have missed tonight's game ... and they wonder why attendance is so low ............

Same here minnieme - I only shelled out 50$ total though.

I kept watching the shoot around.

    No Mobley?
    No Franchise?
    No Cato?
    No Langhi?

    WTF???

So we had 8 dressed versus a full Memphis squad. I didn't want to believe we were tanking, especially after we beat Dallas. But with the Portland loss and tonight. I know we are. Moochie didn't even play in crunch time when we needed a big shot... (he did hit a sweet three right before half-time though).

Langhi looked really pissed sitting on the bench tonight. There was actually no room on the real bench so he sat in the row of seats that run along the baseline. He never got in any huddles or talked to anyone. What's the story? I didn't know he was "hurt" too.

I wonder what our next starting lineup will look like?

    PG - Turbo
    SG - Murphy
    SF - Malowski
    PF - Worrell
    C - Clutch Bear

    :D

minime...i don't blame you either.. i mean... all the fans who attended the game today got sh*t for the money they put up...Now before the tankers jump on my a** I would like to say it was in the Rockets best interest to lose tonight’s game...but to lose it like that at home...as a fan there is nothing to appreciate about that....at least they could have put in cat and steve and made it like an all-star game...where they could just throw up shots or what not...i just feel the fans who paid for the game today seriously got jacked and thats not kool.....

You are within your right to be upset and quite a few were however Juan Dixon and Lonnie were at the game saturday night as well and if you figure Cat,Wink,Cato,Lonnie,Juan,MoT after party= hangover too much partying.

This was a significant slap in the face to the fans
for those who attended the underground game saturday night you will see that those players were far from ill....
Thats what happens when you miss morning shootaround.

You are not alone. The New Jersey Nets did the same exact thing the Rockets did. A ton of people shell out money to watch these professionals play and they are nowhere to be seen. Thats pretty bad. Teams are supposed to play their asses off until the very end and if they just decide "Oh, we don't need to play anymore because we got our seed," then that is B.S. JYD makes a really good point about the Chicago Bulls winning 72 games. Jerome Williams of the Toronto Raptors makes some comments about it here...

Give me a break. Did you guys just start watching sports yesterday? I've been following professional sports for over 40 years. I remember my original team the St Louis Cardinals, the baseball team. In the last 10 to 15 games of the season it is traditional in baseball to bring up all the kids from the minors if you are out of the pennant race. Let them play. See what they can do. However, you are very selective about doing this if you are in the pennant race and every game counts during the stretch.

This has been done in sports for ever. I guess in bb they do it by pretending to be injured. So what. If anything the Rockets have risked even injury by playing Steve and Mobley excessive minutes at the end of the season, when they should be playing Oscar and Tierre more.

i'm just shocked to see that glynch takes a position COMPLETELY opposite of everyone else on the board!! good job, glynch!!! way to play devil's advocate.....AGAIN!!! i'm assuming this is another one of those threads where (like you told Jeff in a previous post) you just wanted to be inflammatory to rile up some controversy. how refreshing.

the bottom line is when you plunk down money, you expect to get some value for it. the rockets had no reason not to play their studs tonight, even if it's only limited minutes. this isn't about bringing up minor leaguers to give them a chance at some big league AB's.

I got courtside seats for this last game...fan apprecitation? Bahh. I got a real kick out of watching Francis and Mobley laughing and having fun on the bench in street clothes. I left at half time..what a crock of S#*#&.

    minnieme ...

I cant blame you for being upset, especially if you only attend a few games a year. Maybe the Rockets should either have a fan appreciation game in midseason or do it against a team that people want to see so that the "stars" play.

Glynch has a valid point. The Rox are obviously seeing what type of talent they have on the bench ...that, coupled with the fact that they are in a race for the lottery didnt make for a very good fan's night out.

Was this the last game ever at the Compaq Center ?

I think NJRocket could be referring to the fact that it could be HP Center next season, not Compaq Center.

We aren't moving until the 2003-2004 season. So one more year at the Summit/Compaq Center.

I assume they are changing the name because Compaq got bought by HP(if that holds up).

I thought glynch had a valid point, the key difference between basketball and baseball though is the difference in ticket prices.

Burning $50 to watch a horrible product is much more annoying than burning $12-16...

They probably don't care for the fans because noone goes to the games, and noone goes to the games because these guys stink. And the reason they stink is because their selfish. The reason they are selfish is because of their egos.

May have lost, but at least the guys out there were passing, something our two primadonnas can learn from.

Madmax, actually the tone was a bit harsh, but I meant what I said, and it has been done forever in professional sports.

The next thing you'll have people who want the Rockets to tank, but only in the games they aren't paying to see.

glynch you are right on. It sucks for those who paid for tickets, but it is better for the long run in most peoples and most fans eyes to lose the next two games and check out your marginal players to see if there are any keepers. I would be pissed too if I paid for the game, but I didn't.

And WTH Jerome? NJ's decision helped your team effort to make the playoffs. Stop your whinning and take whatever you can get because the Wolves will be back and they eat their own. It is actually especially dumb to criticize the Nets org because now they are more motivated to embarass your asses out of the playoffs if you get them (very well might). Let the Pacera and/Bucks do the whinning about it, Freakin dumb ass. In football (rest the key players before the playoffs if it doesn't matter) and baseball--as another said--they do this too. It is a fact of modern sports.
