I know all the true Houston Rockets fans are as well: quit talking about Hakeem retiring or getting traded. I know it has been said before but this man is HOUSTON basketball. He came here and turned UH into a basketball powerhouse then came to the Rockets and made them into contenders for an NBA title in his early seasons then brought them two titles later on. He is the Rockets all time leader in almost every statistical area there is and at the UH as well. I know Hakeem has slowed down and is getting older but he still has a good game every now and then. The reason the Rockets have kept Hakeem is the same reason the Lakers brought in Derek Harper or the reason Robert Parish was in the league so long: Experience equals wisdom. Hakeem offers all these new, young guys on the team many different things. He can tell them what it takes to win, how to do it, and try to lead them in that direction. Hakeem is kind of like a player-coach. I know that several good games may not be worth $16 million but this contract was made out several years ago when Hakeem was still putting up stellar figures. In my eyes Hakeem was one of the top five NBA players of all time and not just for what he did on the court but off of it as well and I say keep him at any price as long as we can because it is like my grandmother always says: "Once they're gone you realize what you have lost." ------------------

I mean I wish he would have retired, but I'm not going to disrespect the man by b****ing about how he is messing up our team with the cap and blah blah blah... He can retire whenever he wants. I was wondering what happened to DreamStillKills, now I know he just changed his name to Lil Pun. I am getting a little sick of people setting standards as to what you have to think to be a "true" Houston Rockets fan. If I think Hakeem is not the right fit for the Rox and I think he should be traded that does not mean that I am disloyal to the Rockets, au contare mon fraire. Maybe that means that I am so loyal and such a huge fan of the Rockets that I am willing to see a childhood hero of mine retire in his twilight years to benefit the team. I think I would rather have a player ON the court who can SHOW their teammates how to win ON the court instead of TELLING them how on the sidelines. First of all I have no idea who DreamStillKills is but if he feels the same way I do then I respect him in every sense of the word. If you are a true Rocket fan then there is absolutely no way that you would want Hakeem to be traded or retire early. Everything that he has done should make you want to keep him. I will compare it to his rookie card. You don't just tear it up or trade it away for a Pete Chilcutt card because it has gotten old because it has so much value. The same can be said about Hakeem, just because he has gotten old doesn't mean you just toss him because he is so valuable not just the Rockets but the whole Houston sports area. Hell he brought this city its first major sports championship two times over. Let the Dream stay as long as he wants and let him end it on his own terms and quit all this dumb*** talk about mangos! It is not because of Hakeem's obvious lack of ability that I wish he would retire. It is because of his not quite as obvious lack of drive. The win-at-all-costs attitude. It is precisely because of his influence on the younger players that he should leave now. If only we could have had Barkley instead of Hakeem be healthy this season. He has shown in Stevie and Cuttino that he can motivate the younger players. ------------------ Kapaayaaaa!!
CriscoKidd, et al, How about this? This BBS has some really sharp posters and we fail to utilize them to their full potential. Suppose there are 56 members of this BBS who will take some reponsiblility for introducing/starting topics. Each day, 2 members will each start a new thread. Over a four week span, that will entail just one intelligent topic started for each of the 56. They are free to start additional threads, but are duty-bound to come up with a really intelligent thread on their appointed day. It is time for us to step forward and be part of the solution to some of the annoyances on this BBS. Bizarre threads will still be started, but hopefully we will spend more time in the better threads and less time in the others. Lil Pun, You started a thread on a topic that already has had numerous existing threads. That is why you have taken so much grief over this. If you would have gone back and posted with some new insight in one of the previous threads, everything would have been fine. Your post in an existing thread would have "bubbled it" to the top of the message list and you would have probably gotten just as much attention without the grief. Reread this entire thread with special focus on the post by the CriscoKidd. Sure, I am one of the more serious people on this BBS, but only in the spirit of making this a progressive community.
