Hello all I am a proud Houstonian. I was browsing this PC when I saw this site. I read that some of you were looking for images of the Rocket's downtown arena. I have plenty at my site: http://www.houstonmetropolis.com I also have other info and images from around Houston too. Let me know what you think!
I said this in the other forum as well but I like the site. I love stuff like what you are doing. What gave you the idea for the site?
I am a member at skyscraperpage.com's forum. One of the foci there are skyscrapers and highrises. I decided to create a site that would show the people there the many buildings of Houston. Some of the other members there have pages about their hometown, I wanted one on mine. I am in the middle of updating the entire site, which should be up by Monday.
Great site Xeelee; I love skyscrapers, bridges, etc. (You know I always wanted to pretend that I was an architect Sorry, I HAD to say that...) I wanted to start a Houston-specific site, too, but I can get pretty lazy, so finding out someone else already did is even better! Keep up the good work; I'll probably be submitting some of my pics soon... BTW; here's another pretty good site: Glass, Steel, and Stone . There aren't as many pics/building as you have, but there are some great write-ups on each one...check it out.
WELCOME! Thats just the local law enforcement checkin for JAZZ FANS! Awesome site Xeelee! Oh shiez, and thats my GRANDth post!
Max: I've seen some but they are hard to come by online. There used to be a place on Yale (Bailey Studios) that had historic photos taken by Bob Bailey. Here's an article written about him by Doug Miller. He and his wife apparently took lots of cool old photos of Houston. There were quite a few hanging in the old One's A Meal on Memorial Drive. Many of his photos were showcased in a series on Houston PBS called Houston Remember When. I'd love to find more of them for my home and studio. As you can tell, I have an interest in them. You can also check out this page full of old Houston postcards. If you want the best local images of downtown or the city, go to PhotoHouston.com
Oh yeah, this is also an excellent sight with some great historic aerial pics and maps and planning not only of Houston but of many Texas cities. http://www.texasfreeway.com/default.shtml Go to each city and dig though all the links.
thanks guys... jeff -- i too would like some larger black and white prints for my office...i assume that means you don't know where i could find those??
If you want old photos of downtown, I'm not sure where you could find them. I know there is a guy in the Heights that does sketches of old photos from Houston, but not the actual photos. If you can find Bob Bailey's son, who still apparently has much of his father's collection, you might be able to buy reprints, but I honestly don't know. If you want new, try PhotoHouston.com. That guy has some amazing photographs of Houston.
Some cool historical pics: http://www.texasfreeway.com/houston/historic/photos/houston_historic_photos.shtml Not sure if that's what you're looking for, though...
