I was thinking about free agency and the whole hoopla surrounding them. I admit that I got caught up with it. But then i started thinking, how many lives are affected or will be affected by just 3-5 people. Players got waived, cut and traded or soon to be traded, all for the sake to land Bron and company. I understand it is a business in the NBA, really I do. But with all the postering from Wade, Bosh, Bron it just makes me unhappy to say the least. Each year i begin to feel the NBA is becoming more and more a conspiracy, with the officiating and now I feel the players are now become just like the nba. The players summit, the twitters about people missing a dinners and the whole lets go treat these guys like presidents. I am not sure if you guys feel the same way but those are my 2 cents......

Before I get flammed, I'd love to have a FA on board but man, these guys i feel have been milking the gravy train for 2 years now, their egos are probaby the size of Mars. I totally understand that you have to play the game to get paid but at some point.... enough is enough....and the teams are just being enablers.

What kind of posturing have the players done? What should the players have done to avoid other teams cutting players? What should have these free agents done, sign a maximum extension with their current teams before becoming a free agent? Should we ban free agency in the NBA? Should these guys have broken NBA rules and signed with a team during the moratorium to avoid the "hoopla?"

I'm interested in hearing your ideas on what these players should have done differently. I'm also interested in hearing some concrete examples of what these guys have done to annoy you. I also wonder if you realize the rumored "players summit" never went down.

so basically you want everything to be completely secret rather than completely public as things have been. it also sounds like you don't want free agency and you don't want players to be able to meet with each other. maybe you want all internet mass media communication banned too! i think yao, dream, and george foreman are in on the conspiracy too since they are lobbying for bosh!

nooooooooooo! not an athlete with a big ego!!! that has never happened until the 21st century!

I am sick of it too. But one thing that came out of all of this is how proud I am of Yao. He could have easily opted out looking for a bigger or longer payday. The Market is ripe for it. ANd with a new CBA sure to change the future landscape of NBA salaries and the possibility of injury and this being Yao's last payday it is incredible he still decided to opt in and shows a major loyalty to the franchise.

I know some on here will say "Hey he's still getting 17 mil out of the deal. Who throws away that kind of money". Well let's see Paul Pierce, Richard Jefferson, Amare Stoudemire just off the top of my head.

If Yao opts out he would have received that and much more. I don't know exactly how many years but whatever it was Les would have gave it to him. Les has said as much and Morey has reiterated it. ANd if for some reason they didn't, the teams would be lining outside Yao's door the night before last pleading their case. So while this free agency is a mess it did show me we have truer that true loyal red rocket on our team and that makes me proud.

As for the rest of the league, you can't blame a man for wanting the best for himself. If you really want to blame anyone blame the commissioner. It's all on him. Players deserve to be compensated for their efforts. But all this you can't talk to anyone until July 1st and then salaries can only be this much with the home team but this much less with the rivals. Why should there be a difference. So now that players or motivated by money becomes blatantly obvious.

A simpler way would be to keep the playing field level but if you steal my player you have to give me cash and a first round pick. If it's for MLE money than maybe just a first round ppick.

I don't know if that's the answer and the fact is greed will always motivate most players with the exception of a few like Yao. I guess you have to get over your disgust of it if you continue to follow the NBA because the fact is, IT'S IN THE GAME".

    1. obviously everything is base off perception. Which why i posted my feelings of the matter and polled it see if i was the only one.

    2. the way how things came together and how these players worked really hard and their results ultimately puts a value on them. It just so happened all of these players are FA at this time. Which brings us to this perfect storm. There is nothing wrong with that. Everything about the NBA at this point of time (free agency) is business related and resulted movitated (Championship).

    3. I dont remember hearing players in the late 80's and 90's have such a vocal input on who they want signed. I also feel that if NBA gm's cant talk about free agency, players shouldnt also. I've never heard of such gifted players whine soo much.

    4. LBJ has been posturing himself for the last 2 years. Granted I dont know him personally but his trusted advisors and all his action (not showing up on conference finals, changing numbers, wanting to be billionaires, upstaging jordan) just speaks to me saying that he doesnt only care about winning...

    5. I dont think Free agency should be banned but there's got to have something change.

    6. Given the circumstances and same set of rules, I will admit, IF i was any of those FA, I'd probably do the same. Because we all want the most we can get but some times you get more when you give up more.

    7. They may not have had a summit, but soo much communication between the players is not right. Do you think that teams banning together would make the NBA anybetter? It will just show how the nba is rigged. I understand why they do it, stick together will ulimately make them richer and better chances at winning championships.

It's a business, teams can cut whomever they want for whatever reason. I don't care about players getting cut after making a couple million last season. boohoo.

Don't hate the player. Hate the game. The current CBA is r****ded.

They should have hard cap with no maximum on contracts. The owners should also be able to waive players, where they would still be on the hook for the contract but it wouldn't affect the cap number.

I like your idea, i feel it is just all to easy for a team to cut players, they need to manage better. I also agree the current CBA sucks...

why would yao opt out? i think it is questionable that he would get long term or max deal if he did. people don't even know if he can play a full season of basketball. the only reason he would get a huge deal would be because of china imo.

I can't blame these guys. This whole FA is a ego boost to all of them. This could be the only time in their life they get courted this hard, and generate so much of a buzz....Hataz gone hate, playaz gone ball ;)

Not me, the players should do whatever is in their own best interests, it is what the owners do.

They have earned the right to do whatever they want.

They're loving the attention just like Brett Favre loves the attention. I do think the NBA needs a franchise tag, but not because the players are acting like divas.

Usually GM's are wheeling and dealing. Now the FA's are doing it too. Same difference. Teams need players. Players need teams. Doesn't bother me at all.
