The Laker's commentator, who is also doing summer league from Vegas, just referred to John Wall as "The Great Wall!" Personally, this is shocking, we at clutchfans know there is only one Great Wall! That is all...
So he's the Lakers commentator? I always wondered where he worked full time...I know he does Texans preseason games too.
Joel Meyer is the Lakers TV announcer, w former SD Rocket Stu Lantz is the color analyst. Meyers likes to give players nicknames, Meyer was the former announcer for the Spur. He also does radio for NCAA and NFL games.
It just sounds like he saw John Wall's jump shot last college season. He knows Wall will be throwing up enough bricks to build a wall by seasons end.
Don't worry, it can't possibly stick as a nickname for him in the NBA, unless they use the entire LONG version (The Great Wall of Kentucky) -- and that's too long for the NBA pace... But I'm sure it will be a headline the first time these guys play (The Great Wall Meets The Great Wall)...after Yao swats Wall into the front row for trying to drive into his space.
Actually the announcers seemed to be pretty harsh on Wall. He missed his first jumpshot and they sounded like they were ready to declare him a bust the reaction to the first miss.
Clyde. But, it's been so long since Yao's played in front of a crowd that no one actually remembers who calls whom what when where and why...and sometimes how...
