Yep, here at work. Boss always feels getting a magazine done by deadline trumps any hurricane. We worked through Rita and we're here today.
Of course...it's sunny and calm here in Austin. I should be mentally preparing for a football game tomorrow, but...
I'm at work - in Austin - and all I hear around me is people complaining. "we could use the rain, not the wind" "traffic on fridays is bad enough - now we've got more" "the schools are letting out at noon - I hope that's soon enough" OMG STFU Am I being overly sensitive, being a native Houstonian and having family and friends that chose to stay there, or am I just being a cranky B this morning?
I surely wouldn't be at work in downtown Houston if it were me. And Meggo, tell them to shut up and think about all the people who could be in danger. They are being insensitive and there is nothing wrong with you thinking they are being moronic.

I have a friend who lives out in Fairfield and works off of I-10 in the University of Phoenix building at the AM radio station there... Her boss is actually making her come into work today - 10am until 8pm. Her boss can go fly a kite. And I would tell them to put a cork in it, but I don't want to start fights and get fired just yet. (Maybe in a month or so though.... )
Nope, it's not just you. I'm a native Houstonian living in Austin (well, the Round Rock/Pflugerville area), and I agree entirely. First of all, central Texans are bat$#^t crazy about weather in general. If it even begins to rain, they freak out, forget how to drive, close schools early (yes, it happened last year), etc. Those Austinites who aren't at Wal-Mart stocking up on batteries and bottled water ( ) are complaining about the influx of evacuees. I love living here, but sometimes the entire city lacks perspective.
At work until 6pm as far as I know, but they may let me go early. Then I have about a 10 minute drive to my girlfriend's apartment to hunker down for the storm. Hope I can make it.
I'm here at work. Looking out my window at the ship channel, I am starting to see a few tiny whitecaps on the channel. Wind is picking up.
I'm at work but I am working from home and I don't have a hurricane bearing down on me. The weather outside my window is sunny with temps in the upper 60's. I'm listening to some zydeco and checking in on the storm though in sympathy to my Houston comrades.
